We went to the Gallery by accident really - we were filling in time before boarding the ferry back to Scrabster. It is wonderful! The architects responsible should be very proud. I knew Andrew Doolan and he would be so pleased that this building won...More

This gallery has fewer than 200 exhibits - enough to spend an hour or two, but not overwhelming. Housed in a beautiful building, it displays works by Orkney artists and many of their well-known friends, collaborators and colleagues, such as Barbara Hepworth. A worthwhile visit.

The entrance gives little indication of what a marvellous modern treasure house of brilliantly curated art there is inside. Nor of how well the difficult site has been adapted to its new purpose. I have always had a slight prejudice against film being called art...More

I wandered into the gallery thinking it was a craft centre and found this absolute gem. The permanent collection has many works by artists such as Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson and Alfred Wallis, all donated by Margaret Gardiner - I particularly enjoyed reading her accounts...More

Not every shop in Orkney was willing to ship to the USA, but Pier Arts Centre sure was! The gallery was beautiful, in a delightful location, and I found a wonderful souvenir that could not be transported in my baggage! The staff in the gift...More
