We provide information and interpretation on the history of the Caledonian...

We provide information and interpretation on the history of the Caledonian Canal, as well as an activities booking service and gift shop. Come and learn about the canal, sign up for some canoeing, whitewater rafting or canyoning, and take home some unique souvenirs made by Scottish designers and manufacturers. We have maps and information on how you can travel along the length of the Caledonian Canal, or the Great Glen Way between each of the stopping-off points, how long it will take, facilities, etc. The canal and lock gates outside our door make up the living museum which is the Caledonian Canal.

Very interesting place to see part of the canal and lochs. We spent about an hour walking up and down the canal, in the visitors center, and watching boats go through the lochs. The visitor center was small but staff was friendly and helpful and they had some nice souvenir items. Along the canal there are one or two shops... More

Nice to drop in for a few minutes but for local information the visitor centre adjacent the car park is far more comprehensive. Peter Keam Australia

We stop by for gas refuel at Londis and was amazing by the atmosphere of this beautiful small town. The canal center is not very informative but the gate and the surrounding area are peaceful and refreshing.

The centre has all the usual tourist nik naks, fridge magnets etc. The lady in the centre was very friendly and knowledgeable. The centre was not open at the weekends during our stay although there were still plenty of tourists visiting Fort Augustus

The lady manning the front desk was very pleasant but the centre did not have a great deal of displays etc on the canal. Basically one room. Parking is at a premium. There is a small parking lot for employees, so I pretended I was an employee for the day. Saved a lot of walking

One room center with a lovely little gift hop. The town of Fort Augustus is quaint ith little gift and food shops. Get a breakfast box with eggs, beans, bacon, sausage, haggis and black pudding!

Not a full visitor centre, although one is being constructed for summer 2017. This little centre gives good background information to the canal and has lovely gifts to sell. The wider area of the Caledonian Canal along with the various gift shops and pubs / restaurants make this a lovely day trip location. We also walked along the cycle path... More

Reviews of this on Trip Advisor seem to be a bit misleading as they are talking about the whole of the village / town or the lock area and not the visitor centre. The visitor centre is a single room in a small house on the lock side. It is well organised with four large posters on the history and... More
