It ok with lots of history, But l would rather visit Mount Stewart More to see. Its right near shopping centre and very close to ferry terminal, spoiled a bit with offices around the castle.

Going around the castle finding out about how this part of Scotland was so much under the influence of the of the Vikings in its early days. Then finding out in more recent times how the various Marquis's of Bute had so much influence locally...More

Totally enjoyed our visit this gem in Rothesay. Fantastic history and well organised. Loved it. Nice wee shop too and very helpful staff.

Not a massive castle but certainly worth popping in if you are in the area. Nice views of the town from the battlements (and protective gulls with fledglings making a noise!). Short video show. The dungeon pit was a highlight! Interesting history with the Viking...More

Rothesay Castle is a visitor attraction, a ruined castle! So definitely no hairdryers anywhere!

Hi. I also have interest in McKirdys and their associated spelling variants on Bute. However when I toured Rothesay Castle there was no mention of McKirdys in the displays. Best wishes. Jacqueline Hunter.
