Lots of info about the surrounding areas and history, and the cutest gift shop. I love looking at old pictures and there is an entire wall of pretty much nothing but old pictures and show bills. I would suggest doing this first.

This is well worth a visit. There is even a cinema which is open on certain days. The local information and display is very good.

Together with the Bute museum I learnt a lot about Bute's history. Well laid out and informative. Staff were very friendly and helpful. There is also a cinema at the back showing current movies, reasonably pricedMore

I have never seen a car hire place on Bute but I'm sure you can hire from Glasgow or as the other answers say there are good local bus & taxi companies on the Island. Hope this helps
