Sun Studio - The place where an 18 year old Elvis Presley recorded his first song.

It’s well-known in the music industry as "The Birthplace of Rock 'N' Roll" and the most famous recording studio in the world. Opened by rock pioneer Sam Phillips in 1950, this national Historic Landmark is where superstar musicians like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and countless others started their recording careers.

Today, Sun Studio still serves as a recording studio in the evenings while hosting public tours during the daytime hours.

If you are a fan of music this is a don't miss. I went with my husband, teenage sons and mother in law so all ages were represented and we all enjoyed it. We got the back story of the studio by a very knowledgeable tour guide. You also get to stand in the actual studio where music legends like... More

My husband and I visited Sun Studio in January, 2017. As music lovers, we were both eager to see this iconic place and we weren't disappointed. Although it's modest in appearance, it boasts a rich history, including the obvious: Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and Carl Perkins all recorded here. We were humbled to know that we actually stood... More

The birthplace of Rock N Roll. Home of the BLUES. Sun Studios has been a staple in Memphis for YEARS. People still record here and it is a great fun place to visit.

OMG as an Elvis fan due to parents being fans visiting Sun Studios and taking the tour is a must. I have never felt so emotional or moved when hearing the history of the place and listening to Elvis first recordings, then listening to the first ever jam session by the Million Dollar quartet. Our host Lhana was amazing and... More

We had been to Studio B in Nashville on a tour led by a true music enthusiast - it was moving and funny at the same time with amazing anecdotes being shared. This was worth going to but different - hanging about in the shop beforehand was a bit odd and then the tour guide was very 'putting on a... More

My wife and I went and toured and we were the only "locals" in the tour group. It was very interesting when the tour guide asked where people were from - England, France,Canada, all over the US - people from around the world. And for good reason. You can feel the history. This place is "where it all began" for... More

I absolutely love music and love this place. It is very information splashed with the good oldies of it's beginnings and even talks a bout on Elvis Presley History and other greatly musicians that came through Memphis and around Memphis.!!

Came to Sun Studio on 19 January on the free shuttle from Graceland whilst on a 3 day mini holiday to Memphis. As a lifelong rock n roll fan this has always been on my list of things to do and it certainly didn't disappoint. Our little tour group was brilliantly led by Lana, who was the best guide Ive... I went on the tour of Sun Studio yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. The tour lasts about an hour. Tours are given daily at the bottom of every hour from 10:30 am through 5:30 pm. The place isn't very big, but it definitely worth going to. Although some may disagree, many say that Sun Studios is where the first rock... More

If you are visiting Memphis, Sun Studios is, with the exception of Graceland, one of the coolest places to visit. The history of Sun Studio is incredible as is the building itself. There is a guided tour of the studio, which is still a working studio, with plenty of things to see. Sun Studio guides are well informed and speak... More
