Sun Studio - The place where an 18 year old Elvis Presley recorded his first song.

It’s well-known in the music industry as "The Birthplace of Rock 'N' Roll" and the most famous recording studio in the world. Opened by rock pioneer Sam Phillips in 1950, this national Historic Landmark is where superstar musicians like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and countless others started their recording careers.

Today, Sun Studio still serves as a recording studio in the evenings while hosting public tours during the daytime hours.

Highlight of the tour definitely was the guide who told history and stories so funny and moving that you had goosebumps.

It is a short (45 minutes) tour for $14. The value is not in what you see but in what you learn from the tour guide, who was excellent. I learned a lot about the origins of the Memphis music scene. An added bonus is that they run a free shuttle bus to and from Graceland. Actually, I liked Sun... More

This is the original, old studio where Elvis made his first record. It's really old and look like original furnishings inside. Small--a quick visit place. Anyone who wants can make a record there.

Capped off a musical history trip to Memphis at Sun Records today! The young lady that did our tour was great!!!! This simple place has so much history running through it that you could feel it! We stood where Elvis did in the recording studio as well as Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and the likes! For $14 per person you... More

The intro area has some great pictures and memorabilia. Worth it to tale the tour so see the whole studio and get a feel for the history and those that recorded here. Tour includes access to free shuttle to/from Graceland which runs every hour. Will drop you downtown on Beale St too. It worked well for us.

Sun Studios is worth your time - after all, it is the birthplace of Rock n' Roll. Size wise, you'll be surprised. It is fairly small, but the tour guides are wonderful and you will go home an expert. After all, if you're in Memphis, you have to see where recording pioneer Sam Phillips worked with greats like Elvis, Jerry... More

I really enjoy the tour, especially our tour guide. My only complaints were that the tour was very crowded, and it was difficult to get up to the exhibits to see them all. The counter staff really lacked in personality as well. I had to wait for a long time for a purchase, and then she broke it. Rather than... More
