We were on a southern musical road trip from Florida to New Orleans, up the Delta and then to Memphis and Nashville. Scheduling this, we made sure we were in Memphis on a Sunday to see Bishop Al Green. It was everything we had hoped for. Even the opening parts of the service, with some of the children reading out... More

As others have said, it's weird to review a church! I was incredibly nervous going here as guests, but there is no need to be. They make you feel very welcome, and there was a huge group of German tourists who took the limelight from us which was good! We arent massively religious, we just wanted to experience full gospel... It does seem weird reviewing a church/service, but I guess it is a bit of a tourist attraction. We had difficulty finding the exact start time of the service. Many different sites and reviews had different times. We went with the time mentioned the most, (11:30am), which happened to be correct. The church is "past" Graceland and very close to... More

It was an honor to see Bishop Green give his service. One of the most unique religious experiences I have seen. The service starts at 11.30 on Sunday and lasts 2 hrs.

Yes it seems strange to rate at church, but because of the reviews, I felt that I didn't want to miss this opportunity. And I'm glad I went....the Holy Spirit dwells here through the music and praising nature of the service. I was reminded how much was missing from my relationship to Christ in lack of praise. The walk can... More

It may seem weird to rate a church, but considering it is a taste of the local culture, I found it apropriate. The sunday service starts at 11:30am and the congregation made us feel very welcome, it was touching. The service was fun, emotional and energetic, preacher Al Green sang and preached beautifuly. There were other visitors as well, everyone... More

I think it's acknowledged that most visitors are only there because it's Al Green's church but that should be no problem if the church and its congregation are treated with respect. This was the case on our visit, when the locals were very welcoming and visitors seemed to thoroughly enjoy the experience. Nobody seems to mind people coming in late... More

We are familiar with attending church on a Sunday morning. Interesting to attend a southern gospel church, they participate whole heartedly in the service and it was a pleasure to be there. I thought there would have been a bigger congregation then was there especially with Al Green being their pastor. Would I go again..probably not.

There is such a special feeling to this congregation, that's not experienced elsewhere. Everyone was very welcoming to visitors, but this is a place of worship. Obnoxiously taking non-stop pictures and videos like a tourist, during the service, is RUDE. If you wouldn't behave like that at your own place of worship, don't do it when you are a guest... More
