Cader Idris is a wonderful 'hidden gem' - not so popular as the mountains to the north of Snowdonia and not as crowded either. We started out in Dolgellau where we visited the local outdoor shop - Cader Idris Outdoor Gear - to buy a map. The shop is also a gem and the owner is a wealth of knowledge... More

It's beautiful. Drive to the top of the pass, park safely in the huge layby at the top and walk back to enjoy the glorious view.

A climb up the highest peak for miles should bring rewards, but if it's foggy you aren't going to see much. Fortunately, Cadair can provided lots of variety to your climb so that you can get something out of even the most unappealing day.

Cadair is a mid-Wales gem of a mountain. Minfordd path is hard climbing, and harder descent, and worth every step. Take warm clothing, food and drinks, and allow 5 hours

Had not done this walk for years and I have to say it was tougher than I remembered. The first hour is very steep with steps that are quite high so challenging for those of us with short legs. My son who is taller had no problem with them. Reaching the lake is a welcome relief and the climb is... More

Went with my partner in early December 2016. We parked at Ty Nant Farm car park, which was really close to Pony Path. Pony Path was not an easy hike, though was a beautiful route. A large part of the route is pretty steep, so I wouldn't recommend it for unfit people or inexperienced hikers. The views are spectacular and... More

If you think you are there for an easy hike, think again. That s from someone who s done the Canadian Rockies. The ascent is quite tough for the first hour as it is very steep. However the view is fantastic on the ridges if you re doing the loop. Get properly equipped with good ankle support walking shoes, hat,... More

Been there with a friends on a really windy day but all the pain is worth once when you reach the top. Ideal for all ages but be prepare for two hours walking up, and a little bit less down.

If you are after amazing scenery, feeling in touch with nature and in need of challenge and exercise, go for it. Good shoes food and drink and time (5 hours) needed. Not to be attempted in bad weather or on your own. Have a map with you.
