Taking a ferry directly from Circular Quay to Taronga Zoo, located in the suburb of Mosman, is the first unexpected joy of visiting the animal park. Once there, the leisurely trails and opportunity to see some of Australia's distinct wildlife become apparent, as does the striking view of the Harbour Bridge from the seating at the aerial bird show. Advance booking can give you the chance to see koalas up close, or stay overnight and 'camp' in the zoo.

This zoo is nothing like what we have in the US. First, if you come in from the harbor you get a lovely view of all the big attractions (Opera House and the Bridge) on your way. The boat trip is only about 15 minutes. The zoo is huge! So you have the standard things that you get to see... More

I'm not necessarily a huge fan of zoos, but Taronga does it pretty well. It's easily accessible by ferry from Circular Quay and the sights on the journey add to what is hopefully a really pleasant day. If you arrive by ferry I recommend starting at the top of the zoo and then making your way back to the ferry... More

The ferry ride and gondola to the top were highlights - great views over Sydney harbour. Zoo quite interesting & compact - especially enjoyed the Australia section, although disappointing Koala exhibit- focussed on getting more money out of you to pay for a photo next to one (also note in NSW you can't hold one). Overall worth a few hours... More

The zoo markets itself as valuing conservation, but do not provide regular water fountains, preferring to sell you overpriced bottles of water. After buying the kids a drink in the canteen, they refused to give a second straw for the kids to share the drink with saying that it is a conservation issue. The hypocrisy as you see the large... We bought a multi-attraction pass that included the entrance fee to the zoo which lowered the price, but it was still too expensive. I've been to many zoos for less money (or even free - thank you Saint Louis, MO) that are much better. It was an enjoyable day nonetheless for our children. We rode the ferry from Circular Quay... Average zoo not overflowing with animals but a good selection. Lots of walking. If you have your tickets in advance you can take the cable car from the top of the zoo but if you have to buy tickets you pretty much have to walk uphill to see all the exhibits. That being said there is lots to see and... More

So disappointed with Taronga Zoo this year went a few years ago and remembered it being amazing. This December, lots of renovations going on (It was like walking through a building sight), Lots of animals not actually on show and the zoo was so busy with not enough open to actually see! No big cats but a big disappoint!!!!

A good 5 hours visit with kids. Had plenty to watch, including wonderful bird show and sea lion show. The zoo are well maintained and staff are very friendly. Arrived via ferry ride at 11am (better plan to arrive 1 hr earlier as several animal feeds starts at 11-1130am). Ticket bought online. Use cable car ride from jetty to the... More

A short ferry ride from Circular Quay and you land at the zoo.It claims to be home to over 4,000 animals, including Australian native wildlife, as well as rare and endangered exotic animals. Impossible to see all in a day's time. Also offers a beautiful view of the Sydney Harbour and a scenic cable car ride.
