Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville, TN. Established in 1807, Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States. It was home to Iroquois, the first American bred horse to win the Epsom Derby and the great foundation sire,Bonnie Scotland, whose descendants include Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and California Chrome. Belle Meade was owned and operated by the Harding-Jackson family for nearly a century from 1807 until 1906. Today their home is restored to its turn of the century appearance along with several original outbuildings.

A little bit better than the Hermitage mainly due to the tour guide. Enjoyed the history and the horse puns. If horse puns aren't your cup of tea, jockey for a better position near the exit and as soon as it is over, gallop on...More

Had the wine and food pairing tour and it was such a wonderful experience! Got lucky as it was only the three of us, and our sommelier was amazing with her knowledge.

Loved Belle Meade and the beautiful 30 acres of land that it is situated. Wonderful knowledgeable guides give you a wonderful background of this historical fabulous for stud farm. Originally there were 5,000 acres. Highly recommended even though approximately 7 miles from downtown Nashville

I did not notice any Segways on the Plantation. The landmarks are fairly close to each other and we're easy to walk to.

I do not believe that the house was air-conditioned (at least not all of it)-- but it was comfortable during the tour as they do have some type of ventilation that seemed to keep it at a reasonable temperature even when it... More
