Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville, TN. Established in 1807, Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States. It was home to Iroquois, the first American bred horse to win the Epsom Derby and the great foundation sire,Bonnie Scotland, whose descendants include Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and California Chrome.

Belle Meade was owned and operated by the Harding-Jackson family for nearly a century from 1807 until 1906. Today their home is restored to its turn of the century appearance along with several original outbuildings.

The Belle Meade Mansion tells a story of five generations who lived there before, through and after the Civil War. The guide was friendly and you can move almost freely inside. There is a lot to see and details to the objects are given. I visited similar places such as Stanton Hall which in comparison seem almost empty. The original cabin... More

If you are interested in the South's heritage or history in general, The Belle Meade Plantation is one of three in the area I recommend. The grounds are sprawling and field trips or families can put a blanket down for lunch under a huge oak tree and enjoy. The tour is informative about the local family, their means and life... More

This is an amazing insight to life in the plantation days. You can see wine making back in the days. The Harding Place is fabulous food, especially at the Sunday Brunch. What a wonderful treat for after church on Sunday, a must do!

We visited using the Nashville City Pass (great pricing if visiting many of the more expensive tourist attractions). Since we visited over Thanksgiving, the grounds were decorated for Christmas, but keep in mind everything is historical. It was beautiful. Our tour guide is normally the costume director, and had quite the dry senseye of humor, which was loved by many,... More

Every great city comes with history. Some great history of the local area started at this plantation. Do yourself a favor and spend an hour or two here. Plus you get to try some delicious wine for free at the end!

Get a taste of old southern opulence , a fair amount of history and a light understanding of what was valued in its day.

A very knowledgeable young woman dressed in period clothing led our tour. She obviously loved sharing all she knew. Besides seeing how a wealthy family lived in late 1800s, we learned a little about horse breeding/racing. The carriage house and stables had interesting displays about the many types of vehicles used with horses back then.

My husband is a history buff so I decided to go with him. I was not disappointed. Our tour guide was all dressed in the same clothes as back in the day. She took us around the inside of home on the plantation and told us all about the history of the family who once lived there. It was so... More

While in Nashville for the annual Antiques and Garden Show, we paid a visit to Belle Meade Plantation on February 5, 2017. We took the 11:00 tour, which was led by an excellent docent, a young man with great knowledge of the subject matter and an extremely pleasant demeanor. The tour was delightful. The historical mansion, home to the Harding... More
