The website for the Southern Appalachia Railway Museum reports that the Secret City Railway excursion train has ceased operation due to liability concerns.

Our group of eight red hat sisters took off for the Big South Fork Senic Railway trip recently. We had attempted to do this trip last April but we missed the train because we were late because we were shopping at the Cracker Barrell which is our normal thing to do. The general store had several different things to browse... More

Check the web site to be sure of the operating schedule. In recent years they have greatly expanded their collection and extended your over-the-rails experience. Often a ride-along narrator describes the World War II Manhattan Project that caused the rail line to be installed. Very attractive country-side views and mountains.

The train ride is only about 1.5 hours, but it was a great experience for my little boy. He had a great time. It was very clean. Snacks and souvenirs are available.

We went in the evening. Road the train for a short while. Then went to dinner car. Food was cooked on site, gourmet style. Nice dining, with real plates and glass ware. Special dressed wait staff. We were seated with another couple we did not know. Nice pleasant conversation. Conductor gave a short history on the Plant and Oak Ridge,... More

Knowledgeable and attentive staff/crew on this short duration train ride attraction. Food is available but I don't recall the menu/choices. Fun for all ages and just enough to keep a family busy on an afternoon outing.

I was expecting more of a scenic train ride through the mountains but it was more of a very slow tour of the old k25 uranium enrichment plant. Don't get me wrong, it was interesting, but Wikipedia would have been cheaper. The price for 4 was $80, 2 popcorn and 4 can drinks, $12... For those prices, I really expected... More

I saw a family on the train. 2 adults, 2 children. $70 plus refreshments paid out...disappointment and boredom on their faces.
