Description:

Located on the grounds of Dallas's first city park, Dallas Heritage Village...

Located on the grounds of Dallas's first city park, Dallas Heritage Village is the perfect place to step back in time. You can immerse yourself in the lives of Texans during the pioneer and Victorian eras. The buildings are all part of North Texas history and give you the opportunity to see and experience nineteenth century life. As you stroll through the grounds, you'll discover how crops were grown, how animals were cared for, how family life progressed, and how the sense of community developed for ordinary Texans over 100 years ago. The Village hosts multiple family events throughout the year and visitors can participate in daily activities led by History Hosts.

This village is a work in progress. The people involved are putting forth a huge amount of effort into turning this facility into something very special. If for no other reason I think this place is worth a visit to support the project. The village takes a look at the history of Dallas from it's infancy into later years. Most... More

I've lived in Dallas over 40 years and only discovered this place last year. The collection presents a simpler time before modern technology. The buildings and their contents speak for themselves and they convey interesting stories. This a great place for photography.

There is a LOT to see here! We arrived about 45 minutes before closing time and the place was almost deserted... Unfortunately, there weren't many employees/volunteers still on the property... However, the ones remaining were very insightful, helpful, and friendly... They were patient and explained things even though it was nearing closing time... As someone else mentioned, this is a... Thank you for coming to visit us and for your review. While our employees always remain until closing time at 4, you are correct that our volunteers do leave at varying times. If you arrive after volunteers have left and wish to see Millermore and/or Sullivan, the staff in the Ticket Office is always happy to open it for you.... More

This is a cute old museum. We took the guided tour. It was nice and full of information. The guide did allow the conversation to get sidetracked by stories from other guests, like houses in California and New Jersey don't really have basements. Anyway, it was worth the visit. WARNING: We tried to walk to this museum from Uptown. My... More

Bringing together a variety of homes & buildings from the area, this open air museum does a great job of providing access to quickly vanishing history in a convenient, pleasurable large park. It was great to see groups of Girl Scouts touring the homes, watching the blacksmith and rolling wooden hoops through the "main street".

Thank you for your visit and review. It looks like you came to see us during one of our semi-annual Girl Scout Workshop Days. It is always great when Scouts and other visitors get to share in the history and time at the Village together. Hoops and Graces is always a crowd favorite! More

I went to Dallas Heritage Village when I had a few hours to kill in Dallas. When I first drove up, I was somewhat disappointed as I could tell that many of the structures were neglected. I was there on a Friday afternoon and there was almost no one else there besides school children. However, once I was in, I... More

Thank you for coming out to see Dallas Heritage Village! For building maintenance, we always say "you never save a historic once, you save it everyday." Unfortunately that's quite an undertaking for multiple historic houses and we have a deferred maintenance list that we wish was significantly shorter. We prioritize the buildings that need it most. The Blum House (the... More

My husband and I stayed at a hotel in downtown Dallas and we tried to find things to do within walking distance. We were going to take bus to Presidential Library but was 30 + minutes away. Very cool park and heritage center that is like stepping back in time. Lots of beautiful old homes, shops and artistic sites. This place is at its best during the Christmas Holidays, they offer an "Old Time" Christmas complete with sleigh rides and srts and crafts.

Thank you for coming out to see us! Being located on Dallas' very first park, makes even the grounds of our museum historic. Our annual Candlelight event is always a big hit and we just celebrated our 45th Candlelight this past year. We have other events year round so we hope that you head back over to check them out!... The guild has wonderful food for purchase in the meeting building. There are carolers strolling, concerts and shows included in the admission price. The donkeys are kid friendly. Dallas Heritage Village is a 13-acre compound, comprising many historic buildings. Some were moved in whole, and some have been reconstructed one brick, one board at a time. There's a functioning blacksmith (they offer lessons), a bank, a saloon, a library, and many other houses and buildings. One of the restroom facilities was built by the Works Progress Administration, out... More
