The free ferry ride is a must. We saw more dolphins from the ferry than we did last time on a dolphin tour. And the sea gulls, they swarm the back of the boat looking for handouts. We went thru 2 loaves of bread 1...More

This is a free-to-use car ferry (that is, taxpayer funded). But you can get on as a pedestrian and ride both ways. It is a great free tour! We saw more than 50 dolphins during the trip!

The weather was perfect for a trip across the bay from the Bolivar Peninsula to Galveston. Midday, so we were able to get on the ferry immediately when we arrived at the dock. Try to avoid morning and afternoon rush hours as many workers use...More

We saw this was rated up there, so we waited until we had a day where it was so cold and foggy. We also saw in reviews there wasn't a lot to do. We did find the perfect day. The sun was out and it...More

I have ridden the ferry many times, almost always see dolphins. Free! Parking on each side with restrooms if you just want to ride. Lines can be long in summer and during special events. Interesting in fog, rain, storm, sunny, sunset is great, also freezing...More

We were traveling to visit friends in Galveston, and they told us about the Ferry. By going to Galveston via the Ferry, you bypass all the Houston and interstate traffic. The Ferry is 40 miles shorter but takes about 10 minutes longer. It is well...More

We timed it perfectly and drove right onto the ferry. It’s about a 15 min ride over to Galveston and you can get out of your vehicle if you want. Staff is professional.

Being a land lubber from Oklahoma we don’t get to ride too many ferries. A free service provided by the state of Texas transportation folks, leaves one after another from Galveston and port Bolivar saving you quite a drive out of the way to and...More

Loved the ferry. Galveston to Bolivar in calm weather with a storm brewing was beautiful and the dolphins were very active. I just rode across, turned around and rode back but enjoyed the ride both ways.

I do believe they could accommodate that on the ferry, it may cost something extra.

Don’t drive around! It’s way longer. Drive your car onto the ferry. The ride is not that long. About 20 minutes. As a bonus, you can usually see dolphins during the trip. As others have said, the wait time to board the... More
