I went with little expectations. I actually thought it was pretty neat. There were lots of neat facts that I didn't know about Galveston's history. I also enjoyed the photo exhibit of tiny houses. There were replicas of ships, real items that were donated, and organized displays throughout the fourth floor. If you are around the area, be sure to... More

A great library with wonderful facilites for children. On the fourth floor is a museum about Galveston that helps you understand the city and why it was so important. A wonderful, helpful reference library on the same floor.

When you take the time to read the comments by all the photos of the smallhouses you will gain insight into the fantastic history of this fascinating city. The small houses tell about the settlement, and re-construction of Galveston. There is also a large display showing some of the history of the settlement and reconstruction. Galveston has an amazing history... More

Ship locked out of port by fog. Found the library and enjoyed ourselves immensely. If you are into genealogy go to the 4th and 3rd floors. They have many early port records, immigration records etc. The computers were a handy way to idle away many hours. Staffing was very helpful and pleasant. The library has several rooms filled with wonderful... More

The library, one of the oldest in Texas, has a wonderful collection of Island history and culture and is a good way to explore more of this treasured Texas city, such an integral player in the creation of the state. Books, maps, and records of course, but also island art and portraits of the big players in Texas and island... More

After stopping at the visitor center to pick up a map and information about Galveston we decided to pop into the library across the street and its free museum on the 4th floor. Interesting introduction to the history of Galveston but what I particularly enjoyed was the room with ancient books on display.

I wanted to find immigration information about my ancestors as family lore was they that immigrated from Europe via the Houston Ship Channel. I did find evidence but not was I was expecting. That is, some immigrants who arrived through the ship channel may have actually landed on the East Coast first. I ran out of time but cannot wait... More

The Rosenberg Library is a lovely turn of the century building that functions as a local public library. Go to the top floor and walk down the stairway and you'll get a quick sense of the grandeur. The top floor has a nice little exhibit on the 1900 hurricane. On the stairway between the first and second floor, there's a... More

The Rosenberg Library is across from the visitor center so we decided to walk in to visit the exhibit on Galveston's history. The building is classic in its design and bustling with people. On the top floor is an exhibit that explains the history of Galveston. It was really informative and we learned a great deal about the city. We... More

If you happen to be walking from Moody Mansion back to town and get caught in a sudden rainstorm, run in here. They have a very nice room of island history, and several other rooms with historical displays, artwork and a beautiful stained glass. The Friends of the Library run a small bookstore, with used books, and the staff chatted... More
