More
Granbury's depot was constructed in 1914 and is an example of a typical Texas train station. The current building replaces an earlier depot, which was constructed in 1887 when the railroad first came to the area. It was destroyed by fire in 1912. The current structure was described as a "modern passenger and freight depot". The Ft. Worth and Rio Grande Railroad came to Granbury in 1887. To enable travelers to visit between Granbury and Ft. Worth, residents paid a railroad $25,000 to run a line between the two cities. This caused a growth spurt in Granbury and an economic boon.

The 1913 Granbury Depot and Museum is a nice example of typical small town train depot. It is located a couple of blocks off the square. There are a few display cases of railroad memorabilia, like lanterns, time cards, and uniforms, but I think the...More

We always wondered what depot building was so one day during a square event, we stopped. It was very informative and the workers were genuinely excited about Granbury history attached to the depot.

This is an interesting historical place to visit or to search the archives of county records. This would be especially worthwhile for children, and you don't need to spend a lot of time there to get a feel for the past.

The citizens of Granbury had to pay $25,000 for the railroad to stop in Granbury. That was quite a lot of money in the 1880's. This is just one of the facts I learned by reading the exhibits at the RR Museum. If you are...More

Not worth driving to Granbury just for this attraction, but worth stopping by to see if already here. We've visited many museums over the years, but never an old Railroad Depot. Interesting pictures on the walls and apparently a true depiction of how these depots...More
