architecture is simple yet reflects the purpose of bringing out the spirit within , harmony , unity. Rothko's art , the inverted pr broken odalisque , water feature and gardens in a lovely tree lined neighborhood makes this a perfect everyday must visit spot for locals ... nothing like this in the so-called progressive or spiritual San Franciso .... The space is quite interesting. The peacefulness was great and reflected in the uses for the building. The light level difference from the outside is significant and so takes a while for your eyes to adjust and then appreciate the Rothko artwork.

This was a very dark but interesting place to visit. As part of the Menil Collection, this houses some of the most contemporary yet dark pieces of all the collection. Left highly to interpretation both the exterior as well as the interior lend itself to a wonderful experience.

Visit both the Rothko and the Menil. Within easy walking distance of each other and both free, it's a worth while experience.

The Rothko Chapel is a lovely quiet space that is open every day of the year 10am to 6pm. It is a nice place to go and sit to have some quiet time, read or contemplate the paintings in the chapel.

I had been told people either seem to love or hate the place. Guess I am the later, interesting enough to have a quick look at, doesnt take longer than 5-10 minutes

Houston and Texas are not especially subtle, in most cases. Rothko Chapel is an exception--an oasis amid H-town's riot of energy and unzoned vigor, an unexpected thin place where seen and unseen graze one another, serene yet humming with spiritual energy, small in scope, but an aperture opening to boundlessness. It's worth a visit!
