Me, a stranger walked in a groovy home of birds, squirrels, rabbits, reptiles, fishes and insects, fortunately they showed no rejection on me. I soften my footsteps for trying not to disturb their fun or rest. Sometime, I pretended I was a tree, remained still and silent to watch their recreation and relaxation. If you are a nature lover, don't... More

A great little sanctuary tucked away from the hectic city life. Very well planned walk route with some great spots to sit back and watch the wildlife go by. Easy to miss but first left after turning off Memorial. Also has some other car parking spots around the park.

This is a great place to visit when in Houston, a nature walk with a river, small lake, many many trees and different birds. With their own resident armadillo, crazy squirrels, turtles, water and land snakes, rabbits and many many birds. Nice retreat from the city.

One of my fave places when visiting the area is this little-known spot. Great for getting away for a few minutes or several hours, you can hike the trails on your own or sign up for walks with groups, etc. (I've personally not done this, only the walks with a friend or two.) Highly recommend!! You feel as if you're... More

This is a nice escape from the rest of Houston. Very accessible, very relaxing, easy walking on well-maintained paths, bridges, and walkways. We went in mid-January, far from an ideal time to see hoards of migrating birds that pass through this sanctuary. But we saw some local birds and turtles, good scenery, and had a very lovely relaxed walk through... More

For birders, this is the place to be from late March to early May. During the spring migration, the little town of High Island is a birders paradise. Birds that migrate by flying across the Gulf of Mexico will set down here to refuel on the mulberry bushes and rest before continuing on to parts north. Many types of warblers,... More
