The old Helena Courthouse is a really cool and if you are real quiet you can hear the ghosts. The old Ruckman House is a true example of the era and the way the it was during the gun slinging days.

The past three years we have attended the Helena Indian Summer Festival put on by the Karnes County Historical Society. Society members dress in period dress. Confederate soldiers set up camp in full regalia. The Ruckman House, the Old Courthouse, post office and jail are all there to tour while local authors share stories and autograph their books of how... More

The old courthouse has been converted to a museum. Outside the building is an old jail cell. The historic Rutledge House is a block away. The old Indianola-San Antonio Trail ran through here and legend that after a rancher's son was killed in Helena he vowed to kill the town which he did. In the early fall is the site... More

I really enjoyed my day trip to Helena. I was lucky enough to meet the caretakers. They walked me around the attractions and told me the history of the town. It was really interesting. They enjoy what they do, so it made it more fun and interesting. I do recommend the trip.

Great docent at the museum who knew all the history of the area. The museum is in the old courthouse and there are a few other places on the grounds to visit. The jailcells sit outside and you can go in them. The original post office is also on the grounds. It seems that this area is trying hard to... More

This is actually a couple of structures all together in a fenced in area. Don't believe the hype about one man killed everyone in town! The guide here is truthful about the railroad being the only reason this town was shut down. People DO live here! Even though I wouldn't drive out of the way to see this, I did... More

I visited Helena in April 2013 and was awe inspired by the quaint buildings, the museum and the house with the ghosts. Yes, real ghosts. But you have to know how to talk to them. I found out (through the ghost meter) an instrument that captures energy patterns and beeps when there is ghost activity. Anyway, seeing is believing...or hearing... More
