Open Tuesday-Friday 11-3 and Saturday 11-2 (Covid-19 hours)
Sep 2020
My husband and I toured the downtown area of Marshall and found the beautiful Harrison County Historical Museum. The 1901 museum was once a courthouse and is located on the downtown square. The museum is open Tuesday-Friday 11-3 and Saturday 11-2 with last admission one hour before closing. We missed touring the inside because we were there on a Monday. $7 adults, $6 seniors, 18 and under are free. The outside was certain worth a 10 minute stop to walk around.

Visiting my Hometown of Marshall! Always Love the Historical Courthouse!
Jul 2020
Marshall is my Hometown. Although I haven't lived there for many decades, my High School Class Reunions are held every five years since 1995 and I've only missed one. Downtown Marshall is a wonderful place to shop & dine - all very unique and eclectic businesses. The Historical Harrison County Courthouse is the shining centerpiece in the Square, and Farmer's Market and handcrafted items, such as jewelry & purses, as well as specialty food products, such as Caramel PopCorn and Jellies and Jams, are available on Saturdays. Antique & Classic 'Car Shows' are also an additional treat on some regular basis, and Local Music Artists performing in a small 'park' across from the 'Old Courthouse' on some evenings is an extra special treat. The Harrison County Historical Museum is ever a treasure trove for those who love our History (warts & all!) and those 'working' there are highly knowledgeable and very personable folks!

A glimpse into the past!!
Apr 2018 • Friends
Traveling to tour your courthouse museum was a real treat on my recent visit to
Texas. Well worth the time and a very honest look into the past. I was visiting
from Wyoming and am a native Texan (West) and I learned a tremendous amount
of history by seeing all the things you have put on display. A custom tour by the
nice guide made things go a little faster since s number of us were handicapped.
Thanks to all the hard working people who have helped preserve the past for all
of us today.

Great taste of history!

This is a great museum right here in Marshall. It captivates the essence of everything Marshall. I didn’t expect much before I went, but I was pleasantly surprised. The displays were well organized and held the most interesting artifacts. I hope this stays open for a long time.

Experience East Texas History

First of all the museum is located in the old County Court House which has been preserved by the good folks of Harrison County, Texas. The court house itself is another of the ornate style architectural buildings still found in a number of Texas counties today. It is surrounded by a small, but well laid out square. Inside the building is worth the time for a visit. Instead of my describing, check out the attached pictures. The museum itself is fairly typical of most county museums of this type. Showing the local history and notable residents through displays and artifacts. "Lady Bird" Johnson, Bill Moyers, George foreman, Y. A. Title, and Robert Newhouse to name a few.

Fun History

The impressive part was looking at Marshall from the steps of the court house. Learning some of people and ways of past times was great.

Beautiful museum and pleasant staff

I'm a descendant of Peter and Dicey Whetstone and made a special trip to Marshall to visit the museum and see the town my ancestor founded. The staff at the museum were so nice and helpful. The visit begins with a short video - a summary of the county's history. The displays are amazing! I definitely plan to visit again.

Be sure to stop by the Harrison County Courthouse in Marshall TX if you find yourself in the area. The building has been beautifully restored and the museum has lots of historical information about the area. And while you're in Marshall go to Mama Tina's for lunch.

A Pleasant Surprise

Not knowing what to expect, My expectations were pretty low. I was Wowed! 3 floors (yes there are stairs) of great history! And they have a library with 2 easy chairs where my sister and I spent over 1/2 hr reading through Foxfire books! An wondrous place if you are interested in history.
