Not nice
Mar 2021 • Family
We were passing through on our way home. We had seen this in YouTube. We kindly asked if we could drive through to plan a visit. The female ranger was extremely rude. Needless to say, we weren’t allowed to drive through. Because of her actions, we don’t plan to come back :(

Camping with kids
Mar 2021 • Family
Great experience, we tented, flew a kite, went fishing with minnows from the bait shop across the street (curbside only), splashed in the shallows, made campfire cones/smores around a campfire, and built good family childhood memories.

Beautiful Park!
Aug 2020 • Couples
We stopped at this park while on our way to a long weekend on the gulf. We also wanted to check this park out for a possible future camping destination. We were not disappointed! While we arrived late and checked out the next morning, but we did drive around the park to see what it had to offer. We saw some cute cabins that are available to rent. It seemed that some had air conditioning and others may not have.

They had decent shower facilities - a little buggy but much better than no shower at all!

The boat ramp and fishing dock seemed nice and the reservoir was beautiful. We have a boat and I can’t wait until we come back with our camper AND our boat.

The campsites are all drive through loops which are easier for those uncomfortable backing into a space. Some are full hookups and others just have water and electric.

There is a beautiful meeting place with a lake view that looks like a great spot for a wedding or other function.

While our stay was brief, we enjoyed the park and look forward to coming back when we can spend more time and enjoy the lake!

Camped and Fished for 3 nights!
Jul 2020
I LOOOOOOVED this place!! There are state parks all over, they rarely are this big and offer so many amenities. We tent camped here for 3 nights! I had so many questions about where we were at from all my posting on FB! The camping, fishing (and cleaning station), the trails, bird watching, fire pits/grilling, lake, swimming, boat slips, sunset overlook....it was so much to do here! We loved it, and I recommend you come with all of your essentials bc there is only 2 dollar stores and a small HEB some miles down the road. They do offer day use which is nice as well. Firewood was sold in the park for $11. I did not care for the showers/restrooms so we took care of that ourselves, but I am very funny about things like that. Others used the facilities faithfully. We stayed in the Mesquite camping area which I prefer, but it is so windy over there as well.

The only cons were of all of the occupied camp sites, the one directly across from us had kids that were so loud until 1 am. Also, the line can get long on the weekend at the gate and they didn't just wave us in as campers that had a permit already. Lastly, some people came and occupied the site next to us and they were only day use. It was a bit inconvenient, especially since the sign says you need a permit to come in the camping area AND the park has a vehicle driving around every 30 mins to an hour checking out the property.

Booking online was a breeze. I did call and leave a message and got a call back.

We are def GOING BACK THOUGH. I caught my first BASS here!!

Beautiful Park Sadly Showing Overuse
Mar 2020
Our last visit was over two years, so we were hoping to see some infrastructure improvements in this overused park and were inspired when we saw the new entrance sign, but it ended there. No doubt about it this is a beautiful park, great fishing pier but horribly overused and it shows it!
Made reservations 4 months prior to arriving for a 2-day weekend stay in the Javelina Loop. Arrived at 215pm Friday to a check-in line at the Park Headquarters. The wait was 15 minutes. The ranger gave me great service and explained completely the slightly twisted transactions that we went thru to finalize my costs (I had rescheduled this stay from a Fall 2019 reservation, purchased a Park Pass and used a TX SP gift card).
Pull-thru site with a concrete pad (bad condition) just long and wide enough for our 28 ft trailer. We had to level side-to-side. Aluminum picnic table was on its own concrete pad under a tree. There was a septic system cleanout pipe right in the middle of our campsite, which was a tripping hazardous waiting to happen, so we piled wood around it. Metal fire ring with cooking grate was overflowing with ash so our campfire was above the metal rim. No lantern hook. No vegetation between sites, so no privacy from neighbors.
Constant vehicle traffic through the Javelina Loop, but otherwise quiet campground, except for the occasional coyotes howling and barking dogs.
Park entrance gate closed 10pm to 7am, but an access code was provided at check-in.
Restroom/showers were clean but just worn out and desperately needing renovation. Toilets were difficult to flush and clogged easily. Interior walls crumbling exposing structure. Really nice all-aluminum fishing pier along with a fish cleaning pavilion.
Got 3 bars AT&T cell service.

We spent two weeks at this nice park. Plenty of spaces for either privacy or group fun. Fishing, hiking, we enjoyed and plan to go back next year.

Very Relaxing
Aug 2019
I spent a one day trip here with my family. This was our first time here, and it was indeed very relaxing. I would be kind of iffy of swimming in Falcon State Park due to its underwater shrubs. This lake however, had very clean looking, and inviting water. My son immediately jumped in and played in the water for a couple of hours. After a while, a snow cone truck passed by, and we all had snowcones. Once we finished our snowcones, we got on our vehicle, and drove down the paved road. To top the day off, we fished until night time in the long, well lit pier. As I mentioned several times, this place is very relaxing, but if looking for feeling immersed in nature, this is not where you will find that feeling. Here you are, more than anything, getting exposed to nature.

Beautiful state park

We loved this park. Sites well spaced. The deer graze so close to the sites. The lake is beautiful -we saw so many people fishing. Good walking trails.

Great Lake but sticker burrs a plenty
Jun 2019
The lake is awesome to cool off in or take a dip. There are kayaks for rent which we used. However, the wind was high so it was hard to control the 2 man kayaks. Our site was close to the restrooms which could have used a good cleaning. Lots of bugs and spiderwebs. Toilet paper was low and sinks needed to be cleaned. The cockle-burs were in the billions it seemed but I understand that is just that area. This was a hard campground to get into so plan ahead if you decide to camp here.
