My reason for visiting this park was to see for myself the location of Springfield, the first county seat of Limestone County. Only had time to visit the old town site and the cemetery which is well kept. Nothing is left today, but it was quite a bustling town back in the 1850's. Beautiful park around Ft Parker Lake which... Every once in a while you come across a small quaint park that is top notch, not too far from the city (2 hour drive from Dallas) and offers a little of everything for you to do. Whether you want to just relax at the campsite, do a little canoeing, or perhaps fish for trout, (in a stocked spring-fed lake... More

It was a very nice place to go, my wife and I went to see how it looked, met the park rangers, very nice people, we looked at the RV parking spots, very nice, better then most parks. and yes, bring your camera, we took some real nice pic's. restrooms very clean, had a real nice fishing pear, and fish... We spent a weekend camping at Fort Parker. The park is small. Although it was full for the weekend it never felt crowded. The things I liked: Lake is small and provides a nice background for early morning and late evening pictures. Many birds out in the lake feeding in the morning. There was egrets, herons, and white pelicans. Trails... More

Fort Parker State Park is a great Texas Park just a few miles out of Groesbeck and Mexia, in case you forget something. The park surrounds a lake so most camping sites have a view of the water. We rented a camp site with an enclosed shelter, 1 faucet, and 1 outlet. The site worked great for two couples and... More

Nice state park that is well maintained and secure. The biggest drawback is the very shallow lake that leaves the overall experience a bit lacking.

Stayed here Labor day weekend and it was really nice. Typical for a holiday full of dogs and kids but the campground is small so not to crazy. Hiked, biked and paddled the lake and river. Nothing bad to say about this place. I recommend it for a weekend getaway, really don't need more then 2 days to see it... More

Yes we knew it was July and yes it was hot. We might could have overlooked the grass being unmowed and ankle high and even knee high in some areas because of recent rains if we had been met with attendants that cared if we were there or not. Neither the man or woman greeted us. Neither stood up and... More

Camping over Memorial weekend, very clean and well patrolled. Great playground for the kids, and fishing for adults and kids. Activity center, documenting the building of the park by the CCC, a touchy/feely room for the kids with animal pelts, bones, feathers, etc.

This is a very nice state park. The location is great along the lake and most campsites offer some view of the lake. When we were there it was busy but it was still very peaceful. There is plenty to do in the part as well as some sights to see nearby. Enough to keep you busy for sure. The... More
