Nice Respite
May 2021 • Couples
My son lives in Midland and we go here every time we’re in town to visit him. We enjoy this as it is a bit of a respite and we always see wildlife. It is very different season to season. Yes, it does get dry in the summer, but this is the desert. There are some interesting facts about plants and animals along the 1.5 mile path.

The path is level and easy to walk on. There are several blinds from which to watch birds. This weekend we saw lots of lizards, dove and rabbits. We saw lots of evidence of coyotes, but Wiley was in hiding.

The real downside is the proximity to I20 and the resulting noise from trucks. Not much to be done about that.

Needs a lot of TLC
Mar 2021 • Couples
There is no toilet in women’s bathroom. Men’s toilet not working. And nasty. It also would be nice for someone to clear a small bit on the sides of the trail. Could be a great place but in bad need of TLC.

Surprising beauty!

What an incredible, surprising beauty right here in the desert! It is always clean and full of wildlife! The entire trail is about a mile and a half I believe but it doesn't feel that way. It is beautiful even in the winter. Great for workouts and families. No bikes, strollers or pets allowed but I can understand why...to keep the wildlife protected. It is a must see...another world in the middle of the desert!

An oasis in the desert

This is a wonderful walking trail around a small lake. Plenty of birds to see and hear. Bobcats may be spotted in the distance. The hummingbird garden is very peaceful to relax in. Trails are wide and keep clear. Bathroom facilities on premises. Great place to relax and unwind.

Great little reserve. Saw bobcats (or lynx?) & ducks.

Yes, it's Midland, TX - so to have a great little trail like this near the city is awesome. And bonus - as I was wrapping up my walk, I saw this cat! Thank goodness I had my 200mm lens w/ me. If you're in town, check out the park. Just be sure to wrap up your visit by 6 sharp. They almost locked me in.

Excellent little preserve
Mar 2019 • Friends
A very well kept nature preserve. Unexpected beauty in the barren Midland area. Lots of ducks and birds. Well maintained walking trail. An easy walk - probably less than two miles around the preserve, but all flat. Lots of nice viewing stations.

Short flat walk

Walked around the pond surrounded by tall reeds. Mostly small bare trees on this late winter day. Clean, well maintained boardwalks and asphalt or gravel paths. Quite a few bird blinds and one tall overlook.

Is this really Midland, TX?
Jan 2019 • Family
Raised on the Texas Gulf Coast, the I-20 Wildlife Perserve is a nice reminder of ‘home’ for me while living in Midland, TX. The trail is easy with plenty of opportunity to learn about nature. There are a few well thought out bird blinds along the trail to provide a closer look at the birds on the water. Lots of evidence on the trails left by predators means the ecosystem is thriving.

It is a good place to take kids to see birds and wildlife. Plan for over and hour to walk thru the Preserve. Going at various times of the year yields different variety of wild life.
