About
Odessa is recognized as the center of oil exploration and production in Texas, but the city has a number of attractions that have nothing to do with oil and gas. Of particular interest are the replicas of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and Anne Hathaway's Cottage on the campus of Odessa College.Built in the 1960's, The Globe Theatre is a non-profit organization presenting classical and modern plays using an Elizabethan stage. Bringing a bit of British flair to the West Texas landscape, this replica of the original Globe Theatre, the home of William Shakespeare's acting company in England, is enhanced by its surrounding Writer's Garden and a replica of Shakespear's wife, Anne Hathaway's Cottage. The 410-seat octagonal theatre was the brain child of a local teacher and Shakespearean scholar, Mrs. Marjorie Morris, who wanted a proper showcase in which to showcase the Bard's plays. The Globe hosts community theatre performances, a monthly music show, as well as other great community acivities.

SHAKESPEARIAN THEATRE EXPERIECE in Odessa Texas??
Jul 2018 • Family
A Shakespearian Theatre is highly unique to our West Texas culture. In 1968, I was privileged to have been taught English by Margorie Morris, an avid Shakespearian enthusiast, who inspired me to choose English as my course of study in college. Mrs. Morris finished her Master Thesis in England and returned to Odessa with a fiery passion to build an authentic replica of London’s 1598 William Shakespeare Globe Theatre at the Thames River for the Odessa College campus. Adjacent to the Globe Theatre is a replica of the home of Anne Hathaway, Shakespeare’s wife, which houses a library archive and dining room for quaint meetings with a large portrait of Margorie Morris overlooking the activities.
Today, The Globe of the Great Southwest built on March 7, 1958, continues to shine as a theatrical beacon of history, antiquity, classical and contemporary artistry. The annual Shakespeare Festival hosts classical drama, operas, ballets, and chamber music events. Kiss Me Kate was the first production in 1964.
Contact the website for current events. Do not miss the fabulous acoustics in the newly renovated octagonal shaped blue seated theatre. The Globe Theatre is registered at the Texas State Historical Association.

Great Shakespeare tour!!
Oct 2018 • Couples
A great walk along the river and stopped at the Globe! The displays are well done and the tour was very good. Entertaining and informative. Tim was our guide and he is funny and very knowledgeable. The glove is an amazing building. We were a day late for the last show of the season. I hope to come back and see a play at the theatre and the play House.

The £17 was well worth the price.

You would not expect this...

In addition to the Stonehenge, which was copied in Odessa, you will find there also the Globe Theater -- which is a copy of the Shakespeare's Globe (assuming that we know how this original theater actually looked like ;-) If you are there and can go for a play, do it!

An evening away from our 3 son's. What a lovely place. Home of Shakespeare, amazing performance, relaxed seating and many laughs to be had. The odd glass of wine too. A real must for theatre lovers.

Fabulous evening out. An amazing venue to watch one of Shakespeare’s plays. We watched Hamlet and it was FANTASTIC! A great rendition, performed by a group of very talented actors.
Book your tickets in advance (directly from the theatre) and if you can, splurge on seats. You can buy inexpensive stand only space, but keep in mind this is Shakespeare Hamlet with intermission was nearly 3 hours.
Highly recommend

The Globe
Aug 2017 • Family
This replica of the Globe Theatre has various productions performed by Odessa College drama and chorus departments. The Globe itself is completely built with all the irregularities of the original. When you are upstairs where the dressing rooms are, when just standing, you will feel yourself being on a tilt or a slant.

It is interesting to watch a show and to realize that people stood in the aisles and in the front pit. If seated, you would not be able to see over them. The only difference in this Globe and the original is that there are bathrooms and central heat and air. Spotlights and other lighting have also been included. Chairs are padded and of course, we now have female performers.

In addition to the theatre, one may also visit the Anne Hathaway house also on the premises. This replica is a beautiful addition on the property. It serves mainly as a place to make costumes and can be reserved for receptions.

Many times, Shakespeare plays will be selected to be performed during the year and various schools in the area will be invited to come see the performances during the year. Often you will have students both performing in and also going to see the plays. The students performing in the plays may miss three weeks of afternoon classes to perform in these plays. Needless to say, these particular students must be exeptional in keeping up with their missed school work, going in early to take tests, and finishing research papers on their own. These plays often fall within a very stressful time period of school so performers are extremely dedicated.

There may also be a Shakespeare festival that goes on every so often. This is a lot of fun. Check with the Odessa Chamber of Commerce to see when the next festival may be.

The Globe and Hathaway houses can be toured if you happen to catch people on the premises and it will be free. Donations are appreciated. All shows require a ticket.

The Globe is modeled after the Shakespeare's theater from England
Jul 2018
The Globe is acoustically sound. This is an exact replica of the famous Globe theater from England except this theater has a roof as well as a temperature control. It doesn't matter where you sit in the Globe, you have great seating. There is even handicapped seating available although it's not front row seats. The Globe is located on the Odessa College property. It hosts everything from plays by William Shakespeare to wonderful concerts from local artists. Occasionally, there are even special fun classes such as learning to sword fight. Seating is limited, so please obtain tickets from the theater. It's an unforgettable experience.
