Someone recommended we go up the lighthouse in the morning vs. the afternoon, and we were glad we had taken their advice. It still was pretty warm, even at 9 a.m.The climb included narrowing stairs and a completely vertical ladder, so is not for those whose mobility is limited.

Historical lighthouse worth a stop. Light-keeper's house nearby and a cute little square. Can walk up to the top for a view.

A nice chance to see history (of the old light house) and its nice views of the surrounding area; bay and gulf. The railing on the balcony level is soon to be under reconstruction so you can only go all the way up to the top. It is kind of a small area that is enclosed in glass but does... More

This is the 1st lighthouse we have ever visited, so it was worth stopping to see & taking the time to do. It is so hot at the top that you can't stay but a minute before leaving. We snapped a few pictures & left. Would be best to do on a cool cloudy day.

It is worth it to go all the way up in the lighthouse. There is an admission to get in (very cheap). When you get to the top, the views are really breathtaking, you can take the best pics of port Isabel, the bridge and South Padre Island in the background.

We were in Port Isabel on a rainy day so we weren't able to climb the lighthouse. The staff at the Visitors' Center could not have been friendlier or more helpful! They explained why we couldn't go into the lighthouse but encouraged us to read the history of the lighthouse that was displayed in the Center. They explained where the... More

We visited this historic lighthouse when we were in Port Isabel. Of the 16 lighthouses originally constructed along the Texas coast, Port Isabel is the only one open to the public. The Port Isabel Historic Museum, the Treasures of the Gulf Museum, and the 1852 Port Isabel Lighthouse are monuments to our rich past. You can enjoy great views of... More

It was neat to see, but we paid more than we would have like to walk up a few flights of stairs only to reach suffocating heat at the top. We could only stay at the top for a minute or so because of how unbelievably hot it was.

We enjoyed it, it's a beautiful place, but it cost 9 dollars to climb 75 stairs to the top and the balcony was broken.. but it is definitely a must see for anyone driving thru..Beautiful and the lady was so nice and informative

I highly recommend going on a cloudy day because the climb can get very hot. Portions of the stairs are much steeper than expected. Bring cash for the tickets.
