camping

We camped the day after Christmas 2016 for 5 nights and pretty much had the park to ourselves. The train is not running during this time but we really enjoyed the scenery.

Most people on the trip were expecting a steam locomotive and had no prior information that it would not be. The trip consisted of a journey of about 2 hours in each direction through trees so therefore no scenic views. No one from the company spoke or gave any sort of information during the entire trip. The most boring, uninteresting train... More

It was pouring down rain and because of the crazy weather in the State of Texas, the Dogwood had bloomed 2 weeks before the ride, but we had a great ride, a wonderful couple from Humble, Texas sat with us, the conversation was lively and interesting and the food was delicious. There was plenty to eat and drink and the... More

I had heard so much about the Texas State Railroad and I finally had the chance to book a round-trip ride for my husband and myself. Tickets can be bought online but I would recommend calling the ticket office because the attendant is very knowledgeable and will remind you of the correct departure location! We selected the air-conditioned carriage as... More

The train ride itself is pleasant enough, lots of greenery, scenery, dogwoods in blossom. but the one hour stop in Palestine at the train station there was depressing. No restaurant or cafe or ice cream cart. The gift shop was closed.

We pre purchased our tickets online, we got a confirmation of our purchase along with detail trip information. Very helpful and informative. We arrived early and picked up our tickets. We were directed where to go and when. The train ride to Palestine was about 2 hrs, with no delays. The closed general admission tickets were nice. We had windows... More

We learned of the Texas State Railroad from the "Tourist train guidebook " and adjusted our route to stay in the Rusk area. We opted for the Lone Star car, and were glad we made that choice. When booking, we found that TSRR has discounts for AAA or AARP. Be sure to check schedule when booking, as they have changed... More

If you haven't taken the time to step back in time and experience the Texas State Railroad, you're seriously missing out on one of life's little pleasures. Whether it be a spring trip through the dogwoods and foliage, a dinner with wine excursion, or the wonder of the Polar Express to stop in to visit the famous Mr. Claus, the... More

We camped at the Texas State Railorad Campground for Easter 2016. We also went on the Easter Bunny Express train ride. Our campsite was nice. It was on a little cirlce that the kids could ride their scooters around. It was a short walk (~ 5min) to the train depot. The train was cool! The kids loved riding the train... More

Although It does need some TLC currently this is a nice quite place to go walk the dog and get outside. There are restrooms, pavilions, and camping sites available and it does have a nice pond, "This place truly has possibilities!!!" Yet at this point it Needs Some TLC, Maintenance, Mowing, and Clean up. The Old Train Station is Neat.
