Ila Loetscher, the "Turtle Lady of South Padre Island", originally formed our organization to save the Kemp's ridley sea turtle in 1977. Now we are a sea turtle hospital with a mission to rehabilitate and release any injured sea turtles, increase awareness concerning their safety and habitat, and assist with conservation efforts for all sea turtle species. We are funded by donations, grants and gift shop proceeds--

We have been to several turtle rescue facilities. This was the first of its kind and, we think, the best one we have seen. Doesn't take much time.

The place is smaller than we expected, but there is lots of info about their work and turtles in general. The workers seemed very knowledgeable about anything turtle-related and really cared. Great giftshop for turtle fans!

we stopped in here to compare turtle rescuse to the other places we have visited...in California and Hawaii. It's a good place for class trips and family day trips. Had information and pictures of sea life rescued on and near SPI

Really fun excursion... the turtles are adorable... the gift shop is really nice, too, and the prices for the t-shirts, etc. more than reasonably priced... We ended up spending $175 in the gift shop because it was all such nice stuff, and well priced. Definitely go and support these folks! They are doing great work! No set charge for admission,... Pretty interesting learning about sea turtle conservation. Staff was nice and answered every question. You can't touch or feed them but only so they don't get used to people and can be returned to the ocean

We arrived here on a Thursday morning at the same time as a school field trip full of kids. I'm not sure who was more excited to see the sea turtles swimming around (it might have been me). The volunteers at the center did an excellent job of answering questions from why the turtles were rescued, how they'd crafted a... More
