I've done this trip to White Pine Lake many times by foot and on horseback. We have taken many groups into White Pine Lake and everyone has enjoyed the trip. The hike is not difficult except for a short stretch near the lake of about 300 yards. Highly recommend this as a day hike for anyone that is in reasonable shape.

It is about 4 miles one way from Tony Grove lake into White Pine lake. The hike is gorgeous, and of moderate difficulty. One is often rewarded by seeing moose along the trail or at White Pine Lake. We've taken scout groups into White Pine many times for overnight backpacking trips, and it has always been a great outing. The trail is well marked. There is a daily use fee for parking at Tony Grove Trailhead (right by the lake), but one can avoid the fee by parking in other undeveloped areas further away.

Our family has hiked to White Pine Lake several times and always have enjoyed it. It is a bit long but has little elevation gain other than the first few hundred yards and the last quarter mile dropping down to the lake. Summer time gives you a beautiful hike with mountains, wild flowers a cold lake to soak in at the end of the trail.

We backpacked in with our two pups and stayed one night. The hike in was very easy. It’s dry up there and our pups needed some stops along the way to drink. The way back was hot and dry and we had to take double the breaks for our pups. The more difficult part was right at the start of the hike back but it wasnt anything too difficult. Our pups have little legs and they did it fine and had fun.
The lake was beautiful and refreshing.

Have done this hike a few times over the years. It is 3.8 miles each way, and a gradual climb from trail head at Tony Grove Lake. There are some switchbacks the last part of the hike that drop down to the lake. Easy going in, a bit of a climb coming out. Your quest is rewarded with a really cool mountain lake up against a mountain. Fun hike to pack a lunch into and do as a day hike. Kids can easily do this hike. NOTE: They charge for parking at the Tony Grove parking area.

White pine is an easy starter backpacking hike or a quick day hike. You drive to the trail head at Tony Grove. A lot of the trail has shade in the summer and white pine lake is a small cold alpine lake. There are no toilets or water (other than the lake) at the lake, so make sure you are prepared.

We hiked this trail in late September with a dusting of snow on the trail-- its so beautiful! At the very beginning of the trail we watched an osprey circle above us and disappear into the forest.

Beautiful hike. Highly recommend. Saw sheep being herded, cows wondering down the road, lion hunters, but sadly, no moose. Being from Michigan, this was unusual landscape and incredibly beautiful. The last sign that says the lake is .9 is lying, its super close, like a .2. Yay!

Been up the White Pine several times, once on horseback and another on a hike. Both trips were awesome. White Pine Lake has Brooke Trout and what a great time. If you're up for a hike or a horse ride try this trail. Try and stay for a night or two just to enjoy the scenery.
