Absolutely beautiful! About a 10 mile hike from the parking lot to do the whole loop. Chesler Overlook is only 6 miles round trip. Highly recommended!

Could spend weeks in the Needles District which is the side of Canyonlands close to Monticello, Utah.

My 9-year old really liked this trail. It is not too strenous, and has enough fun features to keep her engaged: slot canyon, man-made and natural stairs, weird rock formations, echo chambers. While the place looks rather other-worldly to somebody from the East, it is actually quite commonplace (I guess you could also say representative) in Southern Utah - which... More

This was an absolute delight , in the Needles district of Canyonlands. No crowds , great hike , wonderful views difficult enough but not really tricky : follow the little cairns and the signposts up and down and in and out and eventually you will arrive at a great viewpoint for a picnic . Then either make it into a... More

The day start’s with rain but we decided to drive to Needles District of Canyonlands. When we arrived the rain has finished. We used the unpaved road to the Elephant Hill Trailhead, this was no problem also with a normal car and then we started our hike to Chesler Park. Perhaps we had luck with the good road condition. It’s... More

Long challenging hike but the views are worth every stride. Highly recommend taking the more scenic route to get to the south entrance of Canyonlands if staying in Monticello. Take 200 South Street west into the mountain and continue on to Harts Draw Rd to Hwy 211. The trip may take as long in terms of time but is much... More

If you haven't done much slick rock hiking you should know that there is a lot of up and down even if the overall terrain is fairly level. I think this hike had almost 1800 feet of vertical hiking and much of that is done on steep sections of slick rock. If you don't want to do the most difficult... More

Beautiful area in the Needles district of Canyonlands NP. Great vistas and varied terrain. First 100 yds is steep and difficult with tricky footing but things level out in many spots and is doable for most people in reasonable shape. Highly recommended if in the area.

For our 32nd wedding anniversary, we decided to do the long Chesler Park/Joint Trail loop. And we were SO glad we did!! We've hiked the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Glacier, Rocky Mountain, Arches, Bryce, Canyonlands and some others. Yet, this was absolutely our best hike ever. Very few people, but the ones we did see were super nice. The views... More
