After dealing with the crowds around the View Hotel and on the loop road (I took a tour...excellent guide, but lots of traffic and crowds at the popular stops), this was the experience I wanted at Monument Valley...peace and beauty. The hike is not difficult;...More

Nice hike that provides a good perspective of the western mitten. Good way to stretch the legs on a 3.5 mile hike. Provides good views across the desert floor and to other monuments.

A very nice trail which circumnavigates the 'West Mitten Butte' in Monument Valley next to the View Hotel. First 2/3 was a bit up and down but no great grades, generally pretty even. Last third back up was a bit strenuous but this 65 year...More

Great hike but recommend only in cooler months. I can see where it can get hot on this hike. The trail is exposed with little to no shade. We were lucky enough to meet only one other couple along the trail. A nice treat after...More

The hike is a good one, about 90 mins. Some plants have name cards which is nice to know, there are markers to let you know how far you've come. You get a chance to see the mitten from a completely different viewpoint from anywhere...More

I mostly jogged this trail and absolutely loved it. This is a spectacular place. The trail is a 3.8 mile loop and I jogged 3 miles and walked the rest. The most strenuous is at the end having to go back up a sand dune...More

This is a well marked trail but we walked round it over a couple of pottering hours and saw no one else. The views are gorgeous and change with the light and every footstep you take. It's a gentle wander if you have an ability...More

You actually get to walk all the way around one of the "Mittens" with some great views. Take plenty of water and of course your camera!

The entire family can enjoy this 3.2-mile trail. It begins at the camping area inside Monument Valley. It starts out fairly easy, with a downhill stroll. The trail circles around "The Mitten," then circles back to the camping area. That downhill stroll becomes a more...More

I decided to try the wildcat trial. It was quite a hike. If you decide to do the hike make sure you wear hiking boots. A lot of soft sand. I wore tennis shoes and sand and lil rocks kept getting into my shoes making...More

Park anywhere in the lot where the various tours gather (or I think there is a small dirt parking area at the trailhead. The trailhead is just past where the dirt loop road into Monument Valley starts (this is just before... More

Can we hike a short distance on the trail and turn around? Depending on the weather we might want to do a mile and a half round trip, but not the whole trail. Going in early May. Probably wearing athletic shoes, not hiking boots. Thanks

This is a great trail. I think doing part of the trail is good! Doing any trail, part or all, is good! It is sandy in a few parts. I hiked in trail running shoes and was fine. Enjoy your hike but please take plenty of water!!
Can a small RV dry camp next to Wildcat Trail? I did it a few yrs. ago.
