We visited this fascinating cemetery as part of a tour and were impressed by the unusually artistic tombstones ranging from small to monumental and mostly of eye-catching granite. It was a great contrast to the tiny ones seen previously e.g. while walking the Freedom Trail...More

The location is just east of Montpelier and easily reached from the main street. It's quiet, full of beautiful carved granite statues and areas to stroll and reflect.

Many family members of the stonecutters who emigrated here from the Old Country are buried here, and the love poured into the monuments is extremely touching and creative. It seems strange recommending a cemetery as a tourist spot, but Hope is exceptional!

No. The roads are too narrow and it also would be disruptive to mourners who visit the cemetery. Cars may drive through or you can walk.

Do I need a permit for a bus of tourists to go thru Hope Cemetery and see the most unusual headstones? Is there a tour guide available? If so, how long can we expect to spend with the tour guide? Charge?
