This is a very nice general store with lots of interesting merchandise. The restaurant, however, could be much better. First, its mostly a deli but when we visited it was very crowded and we had to wait a very long time for our food. What's unfortunate is that there is virtually no place to sit down to eat. They only... More

Hello John! Thank you for the compliments on the rest of the store...in fact we are not a restaurant at all! We are indeed a deli, and a bakery, and a café. As for seating, unfortunately the State of Vermont has very particular rules about how many chairs we are allowed to put in our store. In the summertime this... More

Wife and i have enjoyed trekking to North Hero just to eat at Hero's Welcome for many years. Spent an anniversary 2012 in the Inn next door when the lake was flat and slick as glass - the locals said it was a rarity. Another rarity, unfortunately the wrong direction, was seeing the grand sandwiches loose a notch, both in... More

We went for lunch in the rain and the folks behind the counter were pleasant and helpful in getting our group a table. The sandwich bread was not gourmet by any means, and though the helpings were plentiful, they were pretty average quality all round. We would probably try another place to eat next time. They did have a bit... More

Very nice store and location with beautiful views of the lake. They also have some pretty cool "gift" merchandise, although on the pricey side. My major complaint was our sandwiches. They had like two slices of meat on them and they were not cheap either! Clearly they are trying to gouge the tourist crowd.

We're sure sorry to hear you weren't satisfied! Groceries and food in Vermont are often perceived as pricey compared to other areas but thousands of people adore our sandwiches. We heard a similar complaint last week about cheese though so we will be investigating this with our sandwich counter staff to see if any of them are unclear on just... More

We stopped because of the great reviews. We weren't disappointed with the roast beef sandwich but I was disappointed with my veggie one. There was supposed to be Vermont cheddar cheese and hummus in it with pickles, mustard, tomato, green pepper in a tortilla. I never tasted or saw the cheddar cheese or the hummus. You can take away the... More

What a thoughtful, detailed and helpful review! We really appreciate it! We do wish that you'd said something about your veggie sandwich though...we make close to 800 sandwiches a day and it's possible something went wrong. We certainly don't feel the need to save pennies on hummus or cheese...as I'm sure you saw on the roast beef sandwich we usually... More

This wonderful store has everything! We picked up lunch to take to the Sand Dunes State Park in Alburg, while waiting for our lunch to be prepared we enjoyed shopping amidst all of the wonderful selection of dry goods. Delicious sandwiches and desserts! If you are in North Hero, this is the place to stop!

Near perfect highway stop for the essentials of a mid-morning drive through the Champlain Islands. Restrooms and very good coffee. Reasonable pricing; they could charge more and get away with it, as there are few good options on the drive. If you need it, they probably have it.

An old time general store, a cheerful deli and locally made ice cream await the traveler. If they do not have it, you do not need it. Arrive by car, boat, floatplane or "Harley" and spend as much time as you want looking over necessities, desirables and frivolities. Friendly staff and real Vermonters on site.
