The refuge & center are nicely done & well maintained. The history is interesting & the huge!!! is a must see. There is a kayak & canoe launch; boat launch is separate & has a fee. Worth a stop.

Nice, easy hike through a butterfly field, past old artillery, to beautiful views of the salt marsh and ocean. Good visitor center with short video. Good way to spend an hour or two.

There is no charge for the visitor center and the surrounding trails. There is a charge of $13-$15 for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel if you are coming from the south (Virginia Beach) or heading south after visiting.
