The historic eating establishment outside Charlottesville is like going back to Colonial times. The food is genuine southern cooking. The staff are dressed in period attire. On a very cold winter day, we particularly enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace. Don't miss the General Store at the base of the parking lot - particularly the second floor. A great find.

The first thing you have to know about historic Michie Tavern is it isn't historic. The Virginia Historic Landmark that is located at 683 Thomas Jefferson Parkway in Albemarle County, Virginia, near Charlottesville was actually established in 1784 by Scotsman William Michie about 17 miles down the road in Earlysville. The tavern served as the social center of the community... More

Stopped here for lunch after touring Monticello. The interior appeared to be of the period of the early colonial times. The buffet had a good selection of vegetables, two types of chicken and some pulled pork. Vegetable soup was very good. There are biscuits and cornbread, too. Water is included with the meal. For an extra fee, dessert and drinks... More

Stopped at the tavern on our way back from Monticello as we saw it on the way in. The building alone makes you want to find out more about the history. We had no idea of what to expect but it was a fun visit with servers dressed in period costumes, the history of the building and the cute shops... More

This was the first time I've been to Michie Tavern and it was a nice experience. The tavern itself is steeped in history and its nice to enjoy a piece of that with friends. If you are an American Revolutionary Period history buff, this will definitely tickle you. The food was a buffet style arrangement with a very limited variety... More

Our family visitors always request a return visit to Michie Tavern! First, they love the rustic ambience of the historic tavern and the wait staff in period costumes. On a cold day, we like to sit in the front room near the wood-burning fire. We all love the buffet style lunch (get there before it closes at 3 pm). You... More

My friend and I had lunch at Michie's. He did not get sick but I did. Within 40 minutes, I was vomiting. However, the shops and location are lovely, although prices on many items were very high. If stairs/uphill walks are a problem for you, this place may give you some concern. If you want to check out all the... More
