Food was good but my lord, that fried chicken was the best ever. Potatoes, cornbread, and biscuits were also great. Not the choice for low carb eaters.

Mitchie Tavern is right down the hill from Monticello. If you are in the area, it is worth a visit. They serve the food buffet style -- a variety of vegetables including pickled beets and black eyed peas, fried chicken and pulled pork, dinner rolls and corn bread and vegetable soup. They serve you on metal plates with an 18th... More

.We ate here because it was the most convenient place to stop for lunch before we visited Monticello. The previous reviews here were not much help since there seem to be a wide range of opinions, but we found it to be good buffet food with a nice staff served in a unique old tavern. We were very pleased. If... More

When I told the hostess I had not visited Michie Tavern in well over 30 years, she said it had not changed. That surely was true. The offerings are exactly what they have been for decades, and they are limited. The pulled pork, fried chicken, and mashed potato are good, the biscuits are excellent, hot cider is fantastic. But the... More

Stopped here on way nack from Trumps place since this is a historical and neat looking place. Buffet was the setup and everything is really good. The ladies dressed in the old clothes like for the time period will bring your seconds if you want them. Fried chicken is their specialty and it is done right. Staff is super nice... More

The tavern is historic so of course we wanted to stop. Food wasn't great and the prices were pretty high. Warning: if you are not good with sitting on a bench for dinner, ask for a chair. My 75 year old mother fell off her bench when she tried to 'scoot' back for more room.

Very unique restaurant with excellent food. Great location with beautiful grounds and very historic. Somewhat overpriced though.

My husband and I stopped her on a whim on our way to Monticello. The staff are all dressed in period costume and the tavern is like stepping back in time. It is a fantastic buffet of southern cooking! Once you go through the line your waitress brings you more! It is the best buffet set up I've ever been... More

Look, you have to go at least once. It is a right of passage if you live in C Ville. Don't expect great food. It is average. Don't expect great service. It is a bit above average. Expect a unique experience, and a fun time with the kids. The highlight was the orange cream floats. You may like those as... More
