Chincoteague National Refuge is a great place to visit. Lot's of birds, scenery and wild ponies. We rode the bike paths and drive through. Frankly, I don't think I would walk through in August because the flies and mosquitoes will pounce on you. It may...More

The wildlife here is abundant, wild ponies as the main attraction. The were numerous seabirds and small game (the local giant squirrels).

This area has some nice, short nature trails for all abilities. If you venture out anywhere in this area though, don't forget the bug spray.

August is definitely not the time to go walking in the refuge. We've been at other times of the year and the refuge is definitely worth the trip. You can still enjoy it by going to the beach or taking a boat tour in order...More

Wildlife and beauty at every turn. Just watch out for the mosquitos. Ponies, birds, sea life, hiking, swimming, beaching.

Beautiful beach, but if you go to the visitor center or the lighthouse dress in full on mosquito gear. Like 100% deet and long clothes... The center was worth the run in. The beach there's no mosquitos and was lovely.

Beautiful place, we really enjoyed our visit to the refuge and beach. Been there in May, not crowded at all, no mosquitos, enjoyed nature a lot!

Hi, from our observation there appeared to be lifeguards during certain time frames but it's probably best to call the park. Also, it was a very lovely site, families, with and without umbrellas, kids, young people, oldsters... More

We took the marsh trail initially, very buggy but also some nice views and wildlife. That connected to the primary "easy" trail which is paved and drivable later in the day. I believe that is called the wildlife loop... More

I'd definitely recommend it! I'd love to go back with my kids. The wild ponies are a beautiful sight. The beach, lighthouse, and wildlife refuge would also be great for kids. They'd love Maddox Blvd (the main road on the way... More
