Took my 13 year old daughter who loves horses down here for a day trip while we were on the Eastern Shore visiting family. It was a beautiful day, even tho' it was a little nippy on the dunes with the wind whipping around. The...More

We decided to spend last day of our trip taking a jeep drive on the beach. For January you thought it was spring. No jackets and short wearing for my hubby. Love seeing the ponies. Perfect time to go. Summer you deal with horseflies. Peaceful,...More

We visit OCMD every year and now we cannot go without visiting Assateague. I cannot say enough good things about this place. My only regret is not going there sooner. Our first visit was 2 years ago and we had free access with the Every...More

I don't know if my kids enjoyed it as much as I did, but I would DEFinitely go camping here again. The horses roam free, so you have to be wary of that, but our tents were set up right next to the beach. Who...More

We were lucky enough to plan a vacation to Ocean City right after the big snow storm! Ocean City, the boardwalk and beach looked fantastic with all of the snow. The big bonus for us was being able to visit the horses and wildlife at...More

We stumbled upon the Assateague Island State Park while exploring over the 2017 Christmas holiday and were sure glad we did. What fun! The visitor center is new and staffed with cheerful, polite, and VERY well educated individuals. The bridge offered exceptional views, and seeing...More

I went there to look at all the pretty horsies. And the beach. Lots of pretty ladies in bikinis on the beach.

If you ever find yourself in Maryland you need to make time to visit this unique place. There are wild horses everywhere. The ocean is very beautiful here as well but the horses are the real attraction. Google "The Horses of Assateague Island." You'll understand...More

Great for young folk as well as the not so young. Marsh overlook wit rocking chairs, hands-on tank with sea life, exhibits on history and shipwrecks. A film as well. Nice gift shop. Renovated a few years ago - a great visitor's center and rangers.

Walking distance to what part of the island? You would have to check some travel websites to get an answer to your question. Off-season is always less expensive.

You do have to enter the park to see the horses, but they are everywhere (not just the beach). You could pay for 1 day parking as well. You will be able to get good pictures. I went twice in one week and wasn't disappointed... More
