Every Friday night the live broadcast is worth the ticket price! Only $5 a head. Best in local old time and bluegrass music. I always listen to the rebroadcast on Saturday evening over the local fm station 98,1 radio.

We had planned to come to the theatre as a stop on our musical tour of the south. We caught the White Top Mountain band and they were absolutely fantastic- brilliant musicians and hysterical stage chat. The experience of a live radio recording was a great and different way to catch music and a total bargain at $5. Highly recommended... More

The Friday night live radio show gets a variety of musicians and there are so many good ones in the area. We saw Stevie Barr and friends and thoroughly enjoyed this experience.

We are so fortunate to have this wonderful vintage theatre close-by, for traditional bluegrass and old-time as well as gospel acts. The supporters of the city of Galax do a SUPER job of attracting and maintaining relationships with established and start-up bands and individuals. We like to go to movie night as well as the Backroads programs, and then take... More

We visited Galax again this year and headed straight for the Rex-- a mid size old movie theater with the first few rows of seats removed so folks can dance to the live music. The band was great-- Zephyr Lightening--string-savvy mom, dad, son and friend of the family. Mostly, our pleasure came from watching the folks dance. This night there... More

I greatly enjoyed the bluegrass show we attended here and had a great time. The Rex is an old movie theater that is being repurposed as a show venue, mostly for bluegrass shows.

The Rex is an old small town theater that has been saved and continues to serve as a performance center. The theater brings local talent to a live audience at affordable prices. Movies and plays may be on the bill. Friday night live performances along with the local radio station. The emphasis on bluegrass. Worth a visit.

OKay, so the Rex has seen it's glory days, but it's still a wonderful place to see a show, movie, or listen to music. Ya know, places don't just "stay" new and wonderful. In fact, the Rex is curently undergoing an upgrade of its seats. If you've been and don't like the seats, how about donating to help make your... More

Went to see the Godfather for free. The movie was great, they have popcorn, candy and drinks that you pay for. You can leave a donation to help with upkeep of the theater. It was a really fun night with family.
