If you love and appreciate history, you will really enjoy a visit to the Hanover Tavern. It was constructed in 1723 and has been graced by the presence of Washington, Jefferson, LaFayette, Patrick Henry, and other significant historical figures from the Revolutionary and Civil War eras. Lord Cornwallis even made his headquarters here en route to his defeat at Yorktown.... More

Lovely tavern. A glass of wine by the fire in the pub. Dinner (also by fireside) was exceptional. Great service, wonderful food, reasonably priced!

This restaurant was built in the 1700's, ad then it was added on to over the years. Patrick Henry lived there with his wife in the 1700's. We went there as a group from church so it was set up buffet style. They had barbecue that was the best I've had in a long time and baked chicken breast that... More

It's definitely worth detouring to visit the historic Hanover Tavern, witness to many pivotal events in Virginia and U.S. history. Stroll the grounds and building and enjoy a meal in their restaurant. Check the schedule to see if the Virginia Rep is staging a play at the Tavern--it's a wonderful dinner theatre, the oldest in the country. The Tavern has... More

The Hanover Tavern is a beautiful old piece of history. Beautiful architecture and charming reminder of how this country started.

We love going to plays. The Hanover Tavern theater hosts many plays as a part of the Virginia Repertory Theater. We have seen many plays there and are never disappointed. We usually have dinner before the play in the historic tavern. Our group enjoyed our meals very much. One had crab cakes, one had the fish special and one had... More

I was with a party of 6 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I love the charm of the Inn, but it stopped there. We ordered fried oysters for an appetizer and they were overcooked. I got a tuna melt for my lunch - it arrived cold and the edam cheese they had put on it was rubbery - couldn't even... More

What a unique experience. We had a lovely dinner by the fire. Service was excellent and food was delicious. We'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu.

The banquet area was very nice. It was a very nice room with wood beams. The photo areas in the back was also very nice. The only problem that I had with the venue was the bar area during the wedding. There were to many people in a very small area. Still recommend it though.
