Pet-friendly Summertime Drive-In Movie Fun
Jul 2019 • Friends
First of all: It's pet-friendly (on leash only & bring a poopie bag if you bring your pup).

They have a nice snack bar staffed by volunteers. We often bring food, but make sure to buy popcorn and snacks there to support the theater.

Cars start lining up early for the popular movies. We go at 6 pm and take a meal to eat. Kids play in front of the screen until the sun goes down and the movies start.

Double features are the norm. They use the radio station to play the audio and some of the spaces still have the traditional drive-in speakers.

Is a great place to take a big group of people and get spaces together. Pick up trucks parked backwards make great theater seats! (see pics)

This local drive-in is a GEM here in Lexington. It's family-friendly and I always have a wonderful time when I go. Easily accessible restrooms. The food is a great way to help support their mission.

Great family experience! One is able to enjoy fresh air in a family friendly environment. The food is good, too and reasonably priced.

Hull's Angels keep the show going
Jul 2018
Hull's Drive-In theatre is one of seven drive-in theatres still operating in Virginia and the only non-profit drive-in theatre in the United States. Located at 2367 North Lee Highway in Lexington, Virginia, it opened on August 6, 1950 and has survived some bumpy times to keep the show going. The 319-space drive-in shows current, family-friendly movies every weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) between March and October. In 2014, TripAdvisor.com voted Hull's the No. 7 top drive-in in the United States. But it always wasn't so rosy. Several years ago, the theatre was threatened with closure. But a group of concerned and dedicated citizens, calling themselves the Hull's Angels, a local non-profit group, raised funds to preserve the drive-in. I still recall going to drive-in theatres in the Chicago area in the late 1950s and early 1960s. But they are long gone. Hull's is a refreshing trip back in time.

Fabulous road trip find! Minutes from Days Inn
Jul 2018 • Family
We’ve driven past Hulls Drive In many times over the years headed to our annual family reunion in PA from Va Beach, but this was the first time we made our pit stop for the night here instead of further north.

I grew up going to a drive in theater in NEPA, but haven’t been to one in years and jumped at the chance to take my 8yo son and nephew for their first time. For $10 for the car, we saw ET. The screen was bright and clear, not fuzzy at all! The sound from the original car side speakers was excellent, I was told they just rewired all of them this summer.

I liked how you parked on amphitheater style grass lanes separated by the drive on gravel; the drive in I grew up attending was all gravel and concrete.

I was so impressed with how neatly the grounds are kept, and the variety at the concession stand was good. Trash cans were easily accessible and safe for the 8yos to get to as needed. Bathrooms were clean and easily accessible as well. The weather happened to be absolutely perfect and we weren’t pestered by any bugs at all while sitting outside and with the windows down!

But perhaps the aspect I appreciated most was the kindness and generosity I experienced as I realized it indeed has been a looooong time since my last drive in visit... forgetting to completely turn off my car while listening to the movie via my speakers. I killed the battery, and the first employee I found didn’t mind helping us at all with their jump box after the movie. I offered a tip and it was politely declined.

I will not hesitate coming again next time we stop nearby!! Fabulous, fabulous find.

The drive in theater was a staple when I was young. We had 3 within 15 minutes of us!! Was so happy to find out there was one fairly near my grandchildren..... better set-up, too!

Fun experience. Nice place.

As an adult who had never been to a drive in, this was a fun experience. The snack stand was running out of snacks because it was the last weekend they were open before closing for the season, but can't fault them for that. I'm sure this is a blast for kids in the summer. Definitely recommend for anyone that hasn't been to a drive-in and I guess if you have and you enjoy it then I would recommend it to you, too.
