- Ria1104Kolkata (Calcutta), India597 contributionsImpressive StructureIt is an impressive bridge across River Ganga. You can get good views if you visited it during the day time. Unfortunately we visited it at night. Still the views of the night lights of the city around amazed us. The Rishikesh Ganga arati which happens nearby is a must watch if you are visiting Rishikesh. But one thing I did not like about this bridge is that it is very crowded and also two wheelers which use bridge create a lot of congestion for pedestrians.Visited December 2019Written 5 January 2020
- carl19 contributionsA great locationI was staying near by the bridge and it is a very vibrant and active area of Rishikesh. Shops, food stalls, sadhus all fill the near by streets. The bridge is wide enough for three abreast. The monkeys seem to like it too as they play aroundVisited March 2019Travelled soloWritten 20 February 2020
- Bharat G2 contributionsBeautiful bridgeVery well kept bridge for pedestrians & two wheelers . Excellent view of the Holy River, Ghats , temples and surrounding mountains n greenery. The illumination & lighting on the vertical support structure makes the entire bridge a delightful sight at night .Visited February 2020Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 February 2020

Just been to Rishikesh and got the chance to visit this historic bridge connecting both shores of Ganges for travellers and city people like us.
Well I was surprised to see that this time there were no lights lit during my evening visit which can be quite dangerous for people walking on the bridge.
But the charm is one that you should not miss while walking over this.
Beautiful views on both sides with fresh breath of air makes it more pure.
Truly amazing experience.

The bridge gets crowded. We were thinking that this is a pedestrian only bridge but turns out it is not. There are motor bikes and scooters using the bridge to cross the river. This in our view ruins the overall experience. Otherwise, just great to walk on the bridge and you will also see lots of rafters on the river. There is a parking fee to this attraction(100 INR) and you need to walk 10mnts. from the parking lot to the bridge. Enjoy!

I came to Dehradun for an official trip. Had one free day so planned to go to Rishikesh. Booked a cab from Dehradun for Rs 2200. We travelled to Rishikesh. The driver parked in the Ram Jhulla parking area. The parking charge is Rs 120. We had a bath in Ganga after crossing the Ram Jhulla.
The water was clear. Crowd was also less. Ice cold water dip was wonderful.

There is a legendary Lakshman Jhula on Ganga river which is not operational for years so more traffic on Ram jhula , the bride is very nice and looks stunning at night when lighted
The only drawback is there are so many two wheelers on this ridge that it becomes scary that the bridge will fall , the government should ban two wheelers totally on this bridge to make it safe

Ok we have seen the mad mad rush in the daylight and it’s another experience with spirituality flowing high but this time was super miraculous! We reached at 1130 night after a 30 m walk and spent sometime on empty pull :)

Good and long steel bridge crossing the Ganges. Enjoy excellent views and a breezy walk across the Ganges. Good spot in the middle to take pictures too.

Great experience walking across Ganges. It is crowded especially with two-wheelers constantly honking and annoying.

Now main connecting bridge across the Ganga river as Laxman Jhula is under repair. Always remain crowded . Local authorities should take care that no vehicle should be allowed on this narrow bridge but still lot of bikers go through this bridge which is dangerous for the air suspended bridge.

In morning you may walk, though I find the road near RamJhula is somewhat dangerous for walking - if you move one side to be safe from a passing vehicle you may suddenly negotiate a deep gorge type drop in the road flank which is too dangerous !.And as there are no pedestarian walks flanking the road my advise is to avoid walking and take some local transport like Auto as the auto wallah is familiar too with the town.
Namaste,
Does some kind person have the contact details - email & phone number for staying in "Swami Swatantranand Ashram" (Shisham Jhari, Rishikesh, India)
Blessings to you.

Not so sure you can visit Badrinath, Kedarnath etc. in the winter months. I was speaking to a sadhu from the Mata Murti temple in Badrinath and he mentioned that the best times to visit is is May, June, and July. I do know they close the roads in and out in Winter. Not sure about October. Haridwar is quite close to Rishikesh and would recommend that you stay and spend more of your time in Rishikesh than Haridwar. Also, I was speaking to the rafting company I used and they also mentioned that during some of the months the Ganga is too high and unsafe to raft. You may wish to also look into this. You truly do not want to visit Rishikesh without rafting. Again, not exactly sure of the months that the Ganga becomes unsafe and they do not allow rafting but I think that is more during the summer months when the glacier melt is impacting it so October - November should be fine.
I cannot help you with your travel plans with respect to trains. Never used them. We flew into Dehra Dun airport and took a cab (about 30-45 min.) to Rishikesh. Then used a scooter or hiked to get around Rishikesh/Haridwar.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
