Marqueyssac is one of the most beautiful romantic gardens of

France and today the most visited garden in Perigord.

Listed as a national historical monument thanks to its 54 acres

park, Marqueyssac's gardens offer more than 6 kilometres of

shaded paths in a maze of 150 000 hand-pruned boxwoods.

From the belvedere, at 130 meters above the Dordogne river,

you will see the most spectacular panorama in Perigord. This is

the testimony of a rich bygone history and a gorgeous natural

heritage. It's also an exceptionnal Dordogne valley point of view,

you will see its most beautiful villages : Domme, Castelnaud,

Beynac, Fayrac, La Roque-Gageac and its castles.

The gardens are clipped into amazing swirling patterns, in between the box hedges grow small pink and white cyclamens. We took the Belvedere walk which became a cliff top walk with the most fabulous views of the Dordogne river and the village of La Roque-Gageac. There is a play area with swings, so it's child friendly. There is also a... More

We went the first week of September. As with the whole Dordogne area at this time, everything was just beginning to brown and it isn't the prettiest time to visit gardens. We'd recommend coming in Spring-early summer. The topiary, however, is good year-round and did not disappoint. Unfortunately, it's only a small part of the property, which stretches along the... Really attractive set of gardens. The pleasure is in the sculpting of the bushes and recognising the care and attention to create such pleasing shapes. The gardens are much more than just this feature though, as they extend some considerable distance, up to a feature over look point over the river and the valley. Lovely tea room also.

A truly unique attraction that can be enjoyed by all ages. My husband and I visited with our 3 year old daughter and all of us had a great time. The Salon de The has probably the best view of anywhere I've ever eaten and the food was absolutely delicious. It is mainly salads, light lunches and desserts but with... More

This is close to alpine hiking! The gardens are unremarkable and the signage is confusing. Not one plant specie is labeled. There are over 150,000 boxwoods pruned into every humpy-lumpy shape imaginable. Lots of thick hedges and overgrown brush to confuse those following the map. Gift store is lovely and the staff are quire attractive but the garden are a... More

We had the great fortune of a clear, warm November day to stroll Marqueyssac and were deeply enthralled with every aspect of this property, both the cliffside path overlooking the Dordogne River and the array of interior areas. Props to the staff, whose impeccable maintenance render the grounds doubly brilliant. We anticipated an hour but spent three, ending with a... More

Really enjoyed visiting the garden. Wish I had had more time. The views of the surrounding countryside and nearby castles were exceptional. Nice giftshop.

This garden is like a floating island of greenery, pathways and views out onto castles and towns in the surrounding valleys. But you need more time than you think because all this gorgeousness can go for 6km of walking so including stops for views and photos you'll need 2 hours. The good news is there's a tea room with another... More

The natural beauty that inspired the original owner and the dedication of subsequent owners over centuries is remarkable. Creating this setting for all to experience.

Thursday's see thousands of candles lit to display the gardens in a different light. The show starts at 7pm and we arrived on the dot and sat on the terrace overlooking the Dordogne. The view from the bar up high on the escarpment was stunning. The drink was excellent and the ice cream on offer sublime. As you wander the... More
