I visited the beautiful Basilica di Santa Restituta during my week in Ischia in September 2019. The piazza and church are lovely, and I was lucky to start a conversation with the caretaker who gave me a terrific tour. (She is an older woman and I believe speaks only Italian.) Many of the paintings in the church tell the story of Santa Restituta and the finding of her body in Baia di San Montano. Overall Lacco Ameno is a picturesque town with a variety of restaurants. Enchanting place to spend the day. There is regular bus service to Ischia Porto and on to Forio.

The interior of this relatively modest-looking church is really very lovely. The chiesa is located in Lacco Ameno's piazza and is open to the public during the usual hours Island hours. Curious visitors should read the story about Santa Restituta for whom the church is named. My only disappointment was that the adjacent archeological museum was closed for repairs.

I visited this church because my family comes from Lacco Ameno. You need to find out what time the church will be open. At my first attempt it was closed, but I found it open in the afternoon. The church is beautiful, more so then you would expect from the outside. Make sure you go around to the side hall of the church to see the shrine to Santa Restituta. You might want to read about her story to enjoy the church even more.

Entering this small museum you feel first a bit puzzled but when you walk into the underground part you are suddenly in a world that was created in 800 bC by the first Greek inhabitants from Euboa. We were really impressed by the importance of this ancient city because this is where the Ischian history started. The Nestor's cup is not here and it's rather amazing that Lacco Ameno has not one but two interestin archaeological museums worth visiting.
