Went for a 3 day music festival. Well kept park right on the harbor. Several Navy ships were docked in the surrounding harbor. Regular marine traffic including a nearby cruise ship berth. Park was very clean and kept that way with a small army of workers keeping the place tidy.

This is a lovely area adjacent to Nautilus. The view is terrific; the ambience serene. Worth a few photographs.

We came for a concert during Harbor Fest. Flat terrain and easy to walk. Very well-kept, green and clean. How can you go wrong when you are right at water's edge?

Not a traditional park with trails but a great waterside view with sidewalks to sit and watch the sunset.

This park is next door to Nauticus. After we toured the Battleship Wisconsin, we took our picnic lunch to this park. There are no picnic tables, but there are benches. Depending on the time of day, you might find a few in the shade. We just sat on the grass under a tree. The grass is beautiful and looked a lot like turf. Of course you have the view of the Elizabeth River with boats riding up and down.
Near the Victory Rover Navel Base Cruise pick-up is a very moving memorial for service men. (near the west end of the park) There are bronze sculptures of letters written by service men who died before the letters made it to their families. The letters are from the American Revolution to the 90s. Look for the flag pole to help you find these. It is worth some time to read some of these letters.
We parked along the street just a tad east of the park and used metered parking. $.25 = 9 minutes.

The day we were there was crowded but did not feel it. There was lots of entertainment and everyone was having a good time.

This is a beautiful and peaceful seven acre park located along the Elizabeth river. Several statues, park benches and some eateries. Nice to take a leisure stroll. Well taken care of.

We walked through Town Point Park to return to the cruise ship terminal on our circuitous walk around Norfolk. The park extends from the square in front of the cruise ship terminal and the Nauticus Museum to the restaurant building at Waterside. It's a park for strollers - not for picnikers, or sport clubs. Strollers can choose among paths in the park. One goes along the waterfront; others, are closer to the street. These paths wind through the green lawn with shade trees planted alongside. At one point, the city has placed a historical sign which provided information about Norfolk as a point of escape by water for southern Black Americans in the Underground Railway System. This green space was delightful to walk through on a hot summer morning. Strollers wishing for a longer walk can continue on the Elizabeth River Trail, the red bricked path along the whole waterfront.

They need a better check-in system. It’s no reason that you should have to wait that long to enter a venue when tickets were pre-purchased.

Is there a place in Norfolk where a family can hold a cookout within the vicinity of the waterfront?

Unfortunately, none that I know of unless you go up to the Ocean View section of Norfolk and have something on the beach by the bay.

What times are the tours of the Naval Base?......and what days do they have the tours???
JimCarroll3
Norfolk, VA315 contributions
I believe that, due to security considerations, tours onboard the Naval Station have been discontinued.
You can, however, take the Victory Rover out of Town Point Park/Nauticus which sails past the base and you can see the ships from that vantage point.
Hope that this helps.
