We did this easy 5.5 kms, mostly flat, but really nice walk. The company is called "Levada walking tours" I believe. The guide was Samuel, very good English and German speaking, who gave us a lot of information about this water-system, and showed us many exoctic plants and trees as we walked along. We end up with a cup of... More

Access from expressway and follow campo do fotball signs. There is parking there and a path up the hill to the levada. From here you have two walks. Right takes you to the wild. The path is narrow but easy walking. The guide books show this as a short walk less than 5 k each way. However the levada leads... More

We went on 3 levada walks and this was probably the most enjoyable because it was not as enclosed by trees as the others and it was easier to enjoy the views. Since it follows the contours of the hills it is fairly level, but you get great views up, across, and down the valley. The walk ends at the... More

The satnav in our hire car got us there but make sure you turn your car around further up the road so that you are facing downhill when you park, we got there early and the road was full when we got back. A gentle incline me ant that this was not strenuous and with rails for the sheer drops... More

I have my favourite places on the islands, most of them levadas, and this is one of those I keep returning to. The bus from Funchal to Cruz leaves 10:00 and takes about an hour and a half, there are several options available to return to Funchal from the same village, giving you a full day of walking in your... Sometimes it's important to take the time to look back and see where you've been. We combined this walk with a forest walk that starts in Sao Roque do Faial. The forest walk opened in 2011 is quite steep in places and not recommended for less experienced walkers. However the Levada walk is much easier. I would recommend taking a... More

This Levada is easy to access from Funchal on the 53 SAM bus to Faial. The bus stop is at Cruz outside a cafe. The walk is clearly signposted on the left side of the road. You have two options as the Levada splits. Our choice was the right hand fork and it proved to be a lovely 3 hour walk. 1... More

Very easy walking. Parking limited at start. Easy to follow path with hand rails where needed. Ends at riverbed with wire suspension bridge ( rickety!) and picnic bench.
