Over-looking the bay of Machico lies the Santo da Serra Golf Club. Its original course, built in 1937, was redesigned in 1991 by the famous golf architect Robert Trent Jones who created a spectacular 27 hole golf course in one of the most beautiful landscapes that nature may offer. The MACHICO and the DESERTAS courses are the ones usually played on the Madeira Island Open, while the SERRAS course, though slightly plain, maintains the same game level.

The first 4 fairways are downhill, almost 150 meters and the. You start climbing back :-). The fairways were dry but greens and the areas around in deep grass. The roughs have been cleared so gone are the thick brushy sides and now you can...More

Played Desertas and Machico courses with my son in August using the courtesy bus to get to the course. The course is in a fantastic location but unfortunately it was blowing a gale and the cloud surrounded the clubhouse (we can't control the weather!). I...More

This was my 136th golf course to visit, and if someone says Madeira people are friendly, that is really true. There are three 9 holes - Serras, Machico and Desserts. Serras is the easiest, Desserts and Machigo are more challenging. The course is almost 1000...More

Played this twice during a trip to Madeira. Weather not great by local standards but perfect for golf by UK expectations so we had the course largely to ourselves. Lots of challenges, but not impossible...apart from the putting! It took us a while to adjust...More

The clubhouse is very welcoming and the staff are super serviceminded! We rebooked almost all of our tee-times with no worries. They arranged pickup and return-transfer to our hotel at any time. We had the "unlimited 7-days golf" package and played 27-36 holes a day....More

It's a great course and worth to play it. It has three 9-hole parts. If you visit it for the first time try to book the Machico and Desertas part with great views. Sometimes the bunkers are flooded and not in very good conditions but...More

The course has great views but the staff is not nice. Fairways were dry but not enough to spoil your round. Good greens

Very friendly staff, all very helpfull. Course dry this time of year but the greens were quick and held a ball. Not a long course for the most part, but some long carries of the whites over ravines. Some holes abit 'iffy' as uphill all...More
