Sugar cane factory & Renaissance house, Frigiliana.

This place is only open one day a year, and it definitely wasn’t the day we visited! Pity, it looked very interesting and we really wanted to see inside. Opening arrangements are not clear at all.

Huge building of 2000sq meters and this became the only cane- honey factory in Europe. Balconies and ironwork is notable.

Entrance to Frigiliana

This large old building marks the entrance to the beautiful village of frigiliana. There is a small cafe there for refreshments and souvenir shop.

This place is the main thoroughfare and most of the markets & stalls set up in front of the building which is used as a backdrop for laser and fireworks show in the evening!

Don’t eat here!
Feb 2019 • Friends
This is probably the worst experience food wise we have had in this region of Spain. Stay far away from their kitchen.

Large old building
Jan 2019 • Couples
As you wander up from the bus station towards old town area you’ll notice the frontage of this large building on balcony in front of you in Plaza del Ingenio. Last year when we visited the village I wasn’t sure of its purpose but now the information panel alongside entrance has been replaced with a bilingual one (Spanish/English) I’m now a lot wiser! Built in the 16th century by the then Lords of Frigliana it has a large interior containing fixtures and fittings from over the centuries (not able to confirm as front door’s always been closed and don’t think there’s public access). However, the building currently homes the only “cane honey” (Molasses?) factory in Europe. To right hand side of entrance is a souvenir shop and cafe on the corner (prompt service/cheap prices) plus panoramic views down valley towards sea and new town area to the left. From here you continue to Calle Real and along the cobbles, past small artisan shops to the church square (not much worth seeing beyond that point).

Lovely view

My wife and I stopped here whilst in Frigliana as the views are well worth photographs. It is a shame that the old sugar factory is under used

Sun trap
Aug 2018 • Couples
A great looking building but sadly under used for such a prominent location. The sun dial on it would be great with a little TLC. Worth a look but could be so much better.

Under utilised building
Jul 2018 • Couples
A major landmark in the area that dominates the plaza. It used to be the main centre for producing sugar cane molasses in Europe but now derelict apart from souvenir shops and a cafe that has moved from around the rear of the building.

Stands out because it is not only a very large building but it isn’t painted white.

So much more could be done with this building celebrating its history given its previous importance.

The views down the valley are as impressive as anywhere in the village.
