A place I have passed on many occasions and never visited, but seeing what was there on line we decided to visit. This is a lovely place with many gardens, I think they claim 60 but we soon lost count. There are garden's in many styles including a lovely Japanese garden, a garden around a representation of Vincen Van Gogh's... More

Went with my wife and children of 9 and 7 and they enjoyed walking around the gardens and having a ice cream . Spent around 4 hours there , on a nice day perfect for a picnic and most important of all it has lots of poker stops and gyms. It costs £13.50 for a family of 2 adults and... More

Arrived for a classic/vintage car show, plenty to see and the surrounding gardens were very interesting. We returned the following day to explore the gardens and animal enclosures a bit more. Lovely walks through the estate. You could hear traffic from the nearby M25 but it was mainly a low hum, not intrusive in any way, plenty of birdsong to... More

We went to Capel Manir gardens as part of a classic car rally. Staff were on the whole very helpful one of the people on reception might have been having a bad day however we had a lovely day. Only disappointment were that some of the gardens were very tired looking. Roses hadn't been dead headed an a good weed... More

Annual car show with the bonus of the chance to view the gardens and the new animal enclosures. By September you can't really expect the gardens to be in top condition but still worth a walk round.

We went at the end of August when many things needed tidying up. There was lots to see and plenty of benches to sit in and admire the view. Lots of good ideas for gardens that you could use in your own garden. Disappointing range of food available in the cafe despite their claims on the website. Well worth a... More

My daughter held her wedding here and it's absolutely amazing as a venue! The gardens are beautiful and so much to see, a photographers dream. There are different themed gardens and lakes and even a small animal farm, well worth a visit.

I cannot do more than three stars . My partner liked it more than I did if that helps? It was tired and just a little run down . Secret Faery garden poor. Sad animals in poor cages , hate caged animals , why not have local domestic farm animals and let them be free ? We don't need meerkats... More

Albeit there were plenty of beautiful colourful flowers on display the whole site looked tired and had not had some attention for a while. On seeing a water feature with no water in it, so much black sacking on display under not covered by stones, fruit just lying under trees which could have been collected and sold in their shop,... Dear Keith, thank you for your comments and visiting. I am constantly surprised by the variation in reviews. There are 64 different gardens and most people seem to enjoy what is looking good as , in any garden, there are always areas which are next in line to be maintained/improved. We are a working garden and a college and at... More

This really is such a beautiful place to visit. We happened to have gone on what has been the hottest day of the year so far, we wanted to do something but keep it local. So I randomly suggested this, not ever hearing of it before or really knowing what it was, all I knew was that it was a... More

Hi Paul,

I am the principal at Capel Manor college and we were very concerned with and upset about your comments posted on trip advisor. As you can see we generally attract very good comments and your comments are quite at variance with others visiting at the same time.

I am not sure if you realise that we are a charity and we rely on income from visitors to help us offer education and training to over 2,000 students.

as I am sure you are aware any garden is a living thing and as such has moods and periods when it is being prepared or revitalised.

As it happens I am puzzled by some of your comments. For exam[le there is no record of the Japanese garden being closed since its refurbishment was completed several weeks ago so I would be interested in when you visited and why you thought it was closed (the senior gardener on duty on Sunday 5th and other staff are quite clear that the Japanese garden was open on that day.

There is a programme for dead heading roses where appropriate and we are following this. Also some ramblers climbers and rugosa's are deliberately left as they produce hips which are ornamental in the autumn.

A lot of he gardens are sponsored and also won medals at Chelsea. Your comment re clashing colours is subjective and personal and one of the things we pride ourselves on is our diversity and the fact that everyone seems to find something they like when they visit. We are also surprised about your comment that the gardens are repetitive as this is the exact opposite to the normal comments.

Also we have just experienced a heat wave and that has put strain on the gardens.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to comment and would be happy to meet you sometime to explain more about what we are doing and what we hope to achieve.

best wishes
