We came to Newfoundland hoping to see icebergs but the long winter and pack ice were not cooperating. A lucky tip led us to Twillingate and to the only operator who was taking people out--Captain Dave. He has a smaller boat and decades of local experience--there is no way a larger tour boat operator could have got us so close... More

Captain Dave gave our family a boat trip that was one for the memory books. We got ridiculously close to an iceberg, walked on ice pads and received some great local knowledge of the surrounding area and community. Can't say enough good things about Dave and the experience he provided for our family.

Wonderful and educational! Everything you will ever need to know about nets, fish, fishermen and fishing boats and marine engines! Not to mention a whale skeleton and some good old downhome Newfoundland music thrown in for good measure! The Prime Berth is must visit on a trip to Twillingate! Both adults and kids will love it!

I didn't know where to start, there was just so much there to see. If you go, make sure you get the orientation because you learn a lot and it's very entertaining and funny. There is so much stuff lining the walls, it might appear to be junk to you, but it's all history. This trip will certainly need more... More

All exhibits have been created by the owner with his own funds! Whale skeleton, music, gift shop, tours at VERY reasonable rates. Also boat tours for crab, lobster, cod fishing and whale and iceberg watching. We go every year!

So much to see at this quirky place! Great story telling, singing with the ugly stick, and many interesting items to see. Highly recommend stopping here.

Thanks for your review. I agree there are not many places like Prime Berth in Twillingate, even if I do say so myself. This place was put together by towing historic buildings through the water, collecting a multitude of fishing artefacts , and putting it all together with a of of love for a life now passing. We have worked... More

We saw this place as we were headed north into Twillingate and the skeleton alone was justification for making a visit. Folks at the hotel said it was also worthy of a stop as well. This was pretty impressive - I like old stuff and there was quite the collection here - like a cross between a museum and an... More

My husband and I visited Newfoundland in June 2009 for the first time. Prime Berth came recommended to us through Maxxim Vacations. It was a wonderful visit and very educational. We particularly enjoyed the salting of the cod demo by Dave. After our tour, David invited us to his home for a cup of tea. Little did we know, his... More

Viewed all of the displays at the fishing museum. Quite a collection. Great video on how Captain Dave moved his fathers' "stage" (cleaning shed) down the bay to its current location. Went on a fishing tour with Captain Dave on a beautiful sunny afternoon. Be prepared to get wet! Jigged for cod and caught a few. Since we had no... More

My wife and I visited the museum during our tour of Newfoundland. It came highly recommended by host at our bed and breakfast, Captain's Legacy. We met Dave and did the tour. A lot of history here, very interesting. Highlight was the whale skeleton. It comes from a whale washed up on an Island which Dave found and got permission... More
