Fun and informative from the start to the finish. Paddling up the river with 35 other folks was just the right pace as we observed the flora and fauna in the area. By far the presentation by the Chief (Hoeni) was enthralling. Past history from...More
Dec 20th, we were in Bay of Islands only one day, on the HA Maasdam cruise ship. We wanted an authentic Maori experience and got it. The Maori guides instructed us on paddling, native chants and war-greetings. The day was damp and blustery, but the...More

With 5 - 7 year olds, I would check with the organisers about their minimum age if they would need to paddle.
From what I remember a good 3 - 4 hours. If the waka goes to the Maori Marae Meeting House for the welcome ceremony this is around about a reasonable length of time. If you journey to the Waterfall it may very well be the... More
From what I remember a good 3 - 4 hours. If the waka goes to the Maori Marae Meeting House for the welcome ceremony this is around about a reasonable length of time. If you journey to the Waterfall it may very well be the same amount of time but a good mornings or afternoons worth of activity.
