I came here just to do some hiking and to sightsee. I encountered very few other visitors. Maybe it was because the weather was chilly, which put a bounce in my step. I spotted a handful of long-legged birds. Herons I think. No swimming allowed. I understand dogs aren't allowed. The visitors center was closed, unfortunately, due to the coronavirus. Still, I got good exercise hiking. Some of the trails are on boardwalks. Very peaceful and relaxing.

I went on a solo nature walk, leaving the fam at our rented VRBO. From the bay to the wetlands to the dunes and beach, it was SO peaceful and I loved reading the signs along the way. I didn't see any raptors, but that's just my own luck. Came back a second time for sunset - spectacular, from the parking lot or from one of the western-facing docks.

Views of the northern end of the inland sounds that stretch into North Carolina. Very pretty native grasses, birds and fish, but overall just a gorgeous scene. Lots of hiking. The beach is as nice as it gtes, but swimming and fishing are not allowed since this is a wildlife refuge.

If you like views of the sounds of Nort Carolina, this is a little better and a lot closer. Native grasses, water, birds, open skies, everything you et from a mid-atlantic tideal shore.

We went an walked the waters edge early. There were lots of ghost crabs running around. There were lots of fishermen already fishing. The walkways were nice. Pretty scenery. I wish the info center had been open though.
